BARELY lost to a chipped 5-spd 1.8T Audi A4
So my buddy who attends boulder university in boulder colorado drove down for the holiday. He just bought a 2001 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro 5-speed w/ 31k miles on it. Anyway, he bought an ECU chip that does basically the same thing that that RRM piggy back does.
For those that don't know, the A4 is 170hp, All-wheel-drive, Turbo 4cyl. So we raced and he just BARELY beats me to 60mph. Not bad for a car that has the stock advantage of an awd launch, and 50hp over the lancer.
We raced 3 times. The first time I won, by a long shot, but he claims he felt "clutch slip" and backed off before second gear, and I believe him because I wasted him bad. The last two races he beat me by about a 1/4 car length to 60mph. But keep in mind he has 50hp more than me stock, plus a piggy-back type device. I just have the simple bolt-ons you see in my signature

As I have said before I used to race this Jetta 1.8T and could keep up until I was getting to the top of 3rd gear. After that there is no catching back up. Our Lancers have good torque to get us going. The high end is another story, if only we could keep the torque and add the high hp numbers.
I like the looks of the Audi though. If I were ever to get another car I might fall for one of the current models.

Surprising, especially considering the altitude. Turbos compensate for the thinner air up here by spinning more quickly. Granted they still lose power but not as much as NA cars.
You are probably down about 20% due to altitude. The Audi, especially with mods, should be able to destroy you!

Yeah. I think if he just had 170hp stock, I would have taken him to 60mph or maybe even 70mph. I'm a bit of a better driver (IMO, but we're definitely close). But then his turbo would probably start to pull. The problem is that he has that damn chip and it gives him a decent ammount of torque even with no other modifications to his car.
And for all the tools that said this thread would be closed for "street racing".... Please show me where I ever said we were racing on a public road or highway? What we were doing was perfectly legal.

ok..either he doesn't know how to drive, or whoever did the ecu did it completly wrong. i had a stock 1.8t passat(which is the same motor) and i would smoke a lancer any day. doesn't really add up to me...
i'm not trying to start anything, but i just don't get it....
