How to get the exhaust pipe off???

I purchased the Buschur catback exhast system for my 02 Lancer Ls and was planning on installing it tonight. I managed to loosen the bolts connecting the muffler and I removed it. But, I can't manage to loosen the bolts connecting the exhaust pipe to the catalytic converter. How on earth did you guys get those bolts loose? I'd appreciate any suggestions.

really really big breaker bar, you can use a socket over the end of the ratchet and then an extension on that to get leverage, you might try some thread cutting oil, or PB BLaster (check auto parts stores)

I tried using some "liquid wrench" and attaching an extension for leverage, but those things are rusted on there so tightly that they don't even budge. Thanks for the suggestions though, any other ideas?

Breaker bar for sure. I have one just for those bolts that's long enough to stick out from under the car.

Haha. Florida pansies!

streetspeed - living in Ohio, I understand your pain. Those bolts are rusted TIGHT. Even the impact wrench wouldn't do it. To remove mine, I actually had to apply some heat (translation - blowtorch), and once the bolts were nice and hot, then hit them with the impact wrench. I hope you don't have to go to such extreme measures. Best of luck.

i didn't even try to waste time with regular sockets, went staright to the impact wrench. Just make sure that u havent striiped any of the bolts yet because then it becomes a pain in the @$$!

I had a really hard time with mine. I finally got them off with a lot of liquid wrench. WD-40 doesn't do jack, btw. Just let the liquid wrench set for about two hours and you'll be good to go. I took mine off with a wrench after applying the liquid wrench, no impact wrench needed.

you can always jsut cheat like we did in the ole auto shop in HS and take your socket, and put a piece of long steel pipe over the handle for leverage. prolly hard to do if you arent on a lift tho.....

My solution last winter:
Propane torch gets bolts nearly red hot
Wait 30 seconds
Spray the hell out of it with the above mentioned PB Blaster
Impact gun
Pray you don't get hit in the head with a nut that's now several hundred degrees F (or the exhaust piping)
For that matter:
Pray you don't get hit in the head with a nut that belongs in your roommates boxers :wtf:

LMAO

you should be fine with a breaker bar..... just let it soak in rust breaker/wd-40/etc. it should work.
