Oil reset

I was changing my oil this weekend, along with my brothers honda civic, and my moms silverado and noticed that I had to reset the computer for my moms and my brothers car. I know for sure that if they don't get resetted the change oil light we come on in the truck and in the civic the service engine light will come on.

So, my question is, do we have to reset our computer also when we change the oil to avoid a service engine light?

Ummm, are you sure about that in the other cars? That doesn't sound right at all. You should never have to reset the ECU unless you are adding mods or clearing out error codes. I used to have a Civic and never had to reset the ECU until I added an exhaust.

Yeah, his description was a little fuzzy. My dad's Chevy senses the amount of particles in the oil and then turns on the change oil light based on that. I think some of them might just be a mileage counter, like in VW's for the oxygen sensor. But I've changed my oil many times and you don't have to to jack to the ECU

Sorry for the confusion, but you guys answered my question. Also, I didn't mean reset the ECU, I meant reset the milage counter. Because after are certain mileage the change oil light will come on in the 2000 chevy silverado.
Thanks for the answers once again.
