RPW sells DEcompression gaskets. With a gasket that is approx 0.02" we're not gonna get much smaller (which would increase compression).

I've been bugging the hell outta Dave, too, about the twin TB setup.... apparently they did the 6 cyl first and now they're working on the 4 cyl..... and this is over 2 years after I asked him about it initially. No word on release date, price, other mods you'll need (although eManage or full-on Haltek is a good guess) or anything, really....

Mike - those are DEcompression. They LOWER the compression for turbo boys like you. Nothing to raise compression is listed.

It says we run .5mm gaskets stock. They offer 1.1mm, 1.5mm, and 2.2mm. There's nothing smaller.

All it says is:

These are also perfect for Naturally Aspirated vehicles running higher compressions like our Galant Drag car which runs 14.5 : 1 CR with these style head gaskets.
We aren't a high compression N/A engine. Our stock is only 9.5:1, which is not very high at all.

All it says is that N/A cars with high compression can use these to lower it a bit.

sorry doug, must not have been the right link, my bad.

yeah of course they will be faster in their 1.8L :sarcasm:, they may be a bit lighter, but you can overcome that.

much smaller than 0.5mm and you might as well go the VW route and skip the gasket altogether notice that the smallest decomp gasket is more than twice as thick and you get a very small decomp effect (I think it was 0.1 CR... could be wrong). I wouldn't risk going thinner. In fact, I'll probably go thicker by the time I'm done with my engine build Bwa ha ha ha ha ha

Pistons are on the table for very near the end of the build.... but size is the question, and if I go too big and do need the decomp gasket, then I need to get an adjustable cam gear (according to RPW the gasket throws off the timing a little).

well if a smaller gasket can't be had, why not shave a bit off the block? usually there's a bit to be shaven since some rebuilders will have to shave(or "deck," not too good with terminology) the block and run a thicker gasket to get back to stock compression. i believe the ralliart about to run 13's has done this.

Hmmm... Hadn't thought of that. But it seems like a long way to go for compression with the easy availability of higher CR pistons.... Good thinking

But if we do get pistons, it wouldn't be much work to deck the block, since it's already exposed...
