What should you do if....
heh, im so glad i dont live over there. first of all, just be aware that there could be people u can hurt when u try things like that. and after u are aware, read on.
are u trying to go through the corner fast, or do u just want to experience your car being out of control? cause these are two different things..autocrossing will make u realize that. but anyways, when in a situation that the car is understeering, i let go of the gas either fully or just a little, depending on the situation. if it is during a corner where i am at a decent speed and im at a point where if i go any faster, ill get understeer, then i would play around with the throttle. but if it is the case that u go waaaaay too fast into a corner, i would just let go of the throttle and let the tires regain traction.
now if it is a situation where u get oversteer and the tail is starting to come out, give your car some gas to correct it.
in any of these situations, hitting the brakes isn't recommended. only until u gain traction should u use the brake. but most of our mindset is "Brake = slow down" so u might do that instinctivly. if u think like "brake = slowing the WHEELS down" then u might have a better idea of when u should use the brakes.

you should practice on an empty lot...my tires loose some traction also on cetain turns...but not enough to run into a curb...i just keep on the gas...make sure im at the right gear, just in case i needed to get out of the turn...tap the ebrake if i need to straigten out
I pretty much agree w/ bobaab.
You can always hear how hard your tires barking through the corner, so you have to lessen the momentum of the car.

This was the case. In rare ocassions, people could push a FWD car beyond its tire traction - oversteer- through a corner. He still has to straighten the car before hitting the throttle. Otherwise, the front would grip suddenly and jerk the axis all out of whack as with this case too.
In the rain during sharp fast corners, my LS coupe would lock up and understeer from tires not pushing the water effectively out. I would counter steer 2-3 times, wait 1/2 sec during the process of straightening, tap the brakes to slow my momentum to prevent tires suddenly getting grip and tossing me violently to either side of the road. Yes, understeer is biotoch while the rear is dragging behind.
