What model of Lancer? I think the only one that can be compared from the show-room floor is the Ralliart Lancer. Hands down it kills the Civic SI. Car and Driver did a Sport Compact shootout a while ago with the new Civic SI, Sentra SE-R Spec-V, Mazdaspeed Protege, SVT Focus, Tiburon, and two others I can't remember. The Civic finished in last place if I remember correctly. They criticized the clunky suspension, lack of torque, and mini-van looks. I'm certain there has been comparisons done between the Ralliart and the SI, you'll just need to scrounge around magazine sites.
The Ralliart will win in the 1/4 no problem because it has more hp and a hell of a lot more torque.
The SI has a bit smaller interior, but more cargo room.
They weight virtually the same (2782 vs. 2843).
SI gets a little bit better gas mileage (26/31 vs. 23/29)
Neither has a limited slip from the factory
Ralliart has a sport-tuned suspension with lowering springs from factory. The ride is not as harsh as the Spec-V nor the Mazdaspeed, but is still very responsive. I wouldn't know about the SI, since I have not driven it, but Car and Driver said it was sloshy.
Ralliart starts at $18499 while the SI starts at $19220

Interior, gotta give it to Civic Si. I love the seats and the whole interior is great.
Better car - I'd say Lancer, but I'm biased, of course. The Si was a great car to drive, though.

ive driven both SI and RA but the SI had some mods. The Si had lowering springs and basic engine components like exaust header and intake.. the SI didn't feel fast at all, lackin torque cause of the ivtec. The ralliart was responsive and you can feel the pull. i don't like how the seats look in da ralliart but i do love how the dash and center console is set up. The position of the shifter on the SI is very logical, its better having it by the radio. i also have driven the se-r. its a fun lil car but the car eats a lil gas.
you can get teh Si into the 13s without much effort, we have yet to see what the RA can do bc nobody has put a tc kit in production yet. for looks they are about even imo, btu teh Si interior is much nicer.

If you plan on doing a lot of tuning, I would personally go with the Si. There are a ton of parts for any Honda car and they are easy to find. Those parts are going to be cheaper for a Honda vs. the Lacner. Even after close to $2,000 dollars invested into this car(which isnt't all that much) in reality, i still haven't even touched the surface of whats available. But if I had the Si, it would be a different story. There is a much better parts variety out there for the Civic as well. If you look at the resale rates for Honda vs. Mitsu, a Honda will kill the Mitsu anyday. I dont remember how many years in a row, but they have had the best re-sale rate out of any car manufacturer and that includes all of the big name car makers as well. But if your plans are just keeping a stock car, go with the Lancer. I'v had mine for a little over a year now, and I still love it. But its all up to you. Test drive both and make up your own mind on wich one you like the best.
