Cold air intake is for manual Lancers, due to the extra space under the hood that's unavailable to auto trannys. It pipes down toward the bottom of the car and away from the heat around the engine.

Short ram is mainly for automatics, because of the aforementioned lack of space underneath the hood of an auto Lancer. It replaces the stock air box with a filter.

What's your price point for the car?
If you are thinking of a new car, check out this comparison guide for some ideas and reviews.
http://www.edmunds.com/reviews/compa...4/article.html

For your first car, I would strongly suggest a 2yr old used car or similar. For the same price, you get a whole lot better value for the car. Also, the car is still under warranty.
It never fails that a person's first ever car usually gets in trouble, or rather, the driver gets into trouble . . .
Once you have driven the car for a few years, you will eventually know what's important to you as a car owner. Then for your second car, get a nice new car if you desire. By this time, you would also know how to take better care of it.

That's just my advice

[lumberg]I'm going to have to go ahead and disagree with you there.[/lumberg]

Sedan:
DX LX EX
Horsepower @ rpm (SAE net) 115 @ 6100 115 @ 6100 127 @ 6300
Torque (lb.-ft. @ rpm) 110 @ 4500 110 @ 4500 114 @ 4800
Coupe:
DX HX LX EX
Horsepower @ rpm (SAE net) 115 @ 6100 117 @ 6100 115 @ 6100 127 @ 6300
Torque (lb.-ft. @ rpm) 110 @ 4500 111 @ 4500 110 @ 4500 114 @ 4800
Numbers are about the same and don't forget the spikey Honda powerbands that don't produce much hp or tq until the higher RPMs. Granted they weigh less, but it's about dead even. The new gen Civics haven't showed to be particularly worthy in regards to tuning either if that's going to come into the picture. Now an older Civic I could understand, but I would give no consideration to the new ones.
