Weird Idle

Alright I went to the car wash to get my car cleaned and there was a pretty big line up. So I'm waiting in line reading a magazine when I hear this weird sound coming from my engine so I look at my dash and my idle was at 3000 RPM. Even when I put the clutch in, it was still at 3000RPM. So I shut the car off and waited until it had to be on before I started up again. The idle was still crappy right up until I went into the car wash. For some reason when the water hit the car, the idle dropped right back down to normal. Has anybody had this happen to them? What caused it?

When it is really cold outside my car starts up and revs high for a second. After a moment it drops back down.

No, my car is kept outside, but its not cold out either, it's currently like 5 degrees celsius. The weird thing is the idles fine now, thinking maybe a dirty filter or something like that?

Mine does that sometimes. Not 3000 but 2000-2500.

The part that really annoyed me was how my clutch wasn't engaging the normal way either. Hopefully this was a one time thing, might get the magnecore wires to see if that helps the idle.

did you try resetting the ECU yet? It may have "learned" the colder weather and is having trouble adapting to the "warmer" weather

Magnecor wires will not fix your idle. High warmup idle is something that's pre tuned into the ECU from the factory. It's a measure used to ensure quick warmup in cold weather. I can't say for certain that's the reason why your car was idling at 3,000 RPMs, but it is a possibility. Unless it happens again, or unless you notice other oddities with your motor, I wouldn't be too alarmed, and I certainly wouldn't stress over it.

Yeah I'm not really concerned, just be nice to know why it jumped so suddenly, when the car was already warmed up.
