Anyone who got pistons installed... how much did it run you? and did you do anything else when you got them installed
and how many hours of labor were involved

I think thats the main problem with the pistons, no one wants to spend 600$ just to get em installed without any idea of what the gains would be or what problems could arise.
yeah im buying DJ's and i asked for a estimate and the guy said 1500 i then inturn
. And walked out and ill get them dynoed when i get them in... gonna have it tuned with the emanage that sitting in my floor
its just gonna be a few months

i was looking in to this a long time ago. people were charging around 1 grand and thats when i dropped the idea. not only is it the price of installation, but you have to go to mitsubishi and get new gaskets and bearings. i think those are like 200. anyways, so its not cheap.
I was shopping for prices and nobody ever mentioned anything except head gasket and bolts. I do not think we need bearings.
Anyway........
I got $2000.00 at one shop for pistons, clutch, timing belt, water pump, honeing (however you spell it) the cylinders.
Another one $790.00 for just the pistons.
And another one $965.00 timing belt and pistons.
I should be installing my Ross's high compression forged aluminum pistons in just few weeks. I will definitely post a review but first I need a lot of money for this mod.
What some people do not understand is you get not only gains and reliability but also you engine is renewed.

You don't need new bearings to do this. A head gasket and head bolts are pretty much necessary though. With a service manual, some time, and some jack stands this isn't exactly impossible though. Just make sure you have a quart of clean oil to lube the new rings and a ring compressor so that you can install the piston into the block. I wouldn't advise this for someone who has never done some serious overhauling before, but it's certainly doable. Mine was complicated by the fact that much of my existing turbo kit wasn't really buit to be disassembled, and tight clearances, particularly between the manifold/turbo/dump pipe and fans, downpipe and ac compressor, and a few other minor places made disassembly a royal *****. Anyway, for an experienced mechanic it shouldn't be an impossibility for anyone with the proper tools.
...and I just got an important phone call so I have to cut this post short.

hmmm maybe ill give this a shot and and rent a ring compressor... or have a shop do that part... i have a intermediate knowledge of car work... but my dads done it for a long time... from v8s to helicopters... I think with his help we might be able to do this... i should give him a call lol.
Honestly you only need the ring compressor for like an hour. If you plan on using the stock rods though I'd recommend going out to a machine shop and having them press out the wrist pins. They're ****ing impossible to get out, trust me. I mushroomed an old chromed steel socket trying to bang out the wrist pin with a big hammer. The wrist pin didn't even budge. Removing the stock parts is fairly easy, replacing them, fairly easy, the real son of a ***** part is that coolant always spills all over the place when you're working with the head, and it's a real ***** to clean up.
