Slow? OR GOOO

is it worth getting a turbo?? our lancer will never run a 10 in the 1/4 13's are the best we could hope for or maybe i am wrong i am currently contemplating saving and buying another car that could run 10's i just want to go fast, real fast if i bought a diff car i would prob get a 300zx 3000gt vr4 or rx-7 so how fast do you guys think the lancer could go in the 1/4 with 4000 invested into it i am not gonna put more than that in there or i might as well buy an evo

those cars are really expensive and really heavy, except rx-7, but that has problems with blowing engines all the time and its kinda hard to modify a rotory engine, so you might be better off with something like a 1st or 2nd gen eclipse turbo or maybe a civic or crx with a engine drop and turbo or nitrous, those two cars should be pretty easy to get into the 12s, getting a car in the 10s will cost you tons of money no matter what car you start with, also a car that does 10s will probably be no fun to drive around because it will probably have a big turbo that takes forever to spool or something like that, or just eat gas and tires fast.

go with an old ranchero or something...my brother had one and it ran in the high 10's....got it for 200 bucks and spend 3000 on a edelbrock engine...thing had so much torque, it stripped off all his luggs once..

Your call. No way this is staying in Engine Tech though.

With 4g's you'll probably be in the high 13's or more likely 14's if you do everything yourself and do some serious budget tuning.

Yes because 10 second street cars are sooooo common and cheap. This ain't FF here. Ratboy has the right idea and hopefully brought you down to earth. Get yourself a Fiero and one of those V8 drop-in kits and maybe work with that. Probably cheaper to.

although hondas are usually what comes to mind with an engine swap, why not do it to the lancer. i was shopping around and found a plae that would drop 220hp version of the 4g63 for $3k. something to think about. lancer would definitely scoot with 220hp.

Yeah, ok...please everyone forgive this disgression.

BECAUSE IT'S NOT A DIRECT DROP IN AND THE COSTS ARE FAR BEYOND HIS BUDGET LIMITATIONS.

Putting a 4g63 in your car is not as simple as popping out the 4g94, tossing in the 4g63, closing the hood and shaking it up. Ugh, Paul do what you gotta do.

WHAAAAAT is this !? Did the IQ suddenly drop on the forum? By now, people should at least have a small clue as to how hard an engine swap into this thing is. So tack on another 3k for the motor and now the cost is 6k not adding in things like rewelding engine mounts. It really isn't that easy, and 10 seconds with a FWD car (because putting the AWD into the Lancer requires things like oh, a new underbody and relocating the fuel tank, you know, easy stuff) that's STREETABLE is not going to happen.

As for the 4k into the car...you can maybe find a nice turbo for under a grand and maybe a used intercooler (granted it fits) for under a grand. Then you have to split the block and get the internals redone, definitely look into a turbo cam, then worry about fuel tuning and hopefully not running lean or boggin down by going to rich. 4k in this car does not get you very far. This thing will never be a straight line wonder...unless it's wearing drag slicks with a welded differential and can't turn and brakes every emission law known to man.

Double your budget though (not even) and you'd have a FAST Lancer, but just a pretty fast car.
