You can change the gear without changing the cam, but he might as well just wait and put the sprocket on the new cam. Better than doing the install twice.

Hey...thanks everyone for all the posts. I shot the picture with the part # in plain sight...look!!! But yes...I'll wait till I get that RPW cam as well. Are they the only company making our cams right now??? Got the cam off Ebay. $110 shipped, I believe. Came in red and blue and chrome. Great company I dealt with...I sent an email about the fitment and color options. They got right back to me. Check it out here ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...spagename=WDVW ).

Hmmmm. It's a Mirage part. But they don't say 1.5 or 1.8 - and those are different cam gears. We share cam gears with 1.8 (thanks to Hobie for that info!).

Gonna have to contact Fidanza.

No problem.

General question - what is this cam gear for? Just to change timing, or is it also lighter? I see that the eBay vendor claims 15hp ( ), but what are the gains?

I believe it is both lighter and to advance/retard valve timing.

which if you have a car that can make some extra power(turbo) you could probably pull 15hp out of a lightend cam gear if you spend enough time on a dyno to tune it.

if it cheaper then RPWs and it does the same thing... this is the one ill be getting when i get a cam. O and there was some speculation that you had to use a shorter belt if you used this cam gear on the lancer in one of the other threads... dont know if they decided on that or not.
