water in my engine :(

Has anyone gotten water in there engine where it shut off and locked up but then a few days after you got it turned on "of course sounding different and what not"? im in this position now and got my insurance company involved and they are coming out to inspect my car to get estimates and what not on putting a used motor in my car "4g94". I spoke to mitsubishi and they told me that the engine will not be the same even if the water is removed because lubricating problems, etc will occur. Would the insurance company actually try to have a shop fix it or would they go with the route they told me of a used engine? Give me some input, especialy those of you who have had this happen to you. Thanks.

I haven't had this problem with my car, but my brother's car had this problem and the insurance company put a brand new engine in it. Hopefully if the put in a used engine for you it won't have too many miles on it.

sonnguyen, did your brothers car turn on after it happened? i already spoke with my adjusted and he said they will definitely not put a new engine in it cuz it would run around 13k, these people are trying to save money so they said they would put a used one in, but now that i got it started im worried whether they will try to have a place fix it or something.

No, his car was completely dead. You should talk to the adjuster and let him know that mitsubishi told you that the engine would not be the same no matter what. I hope every thing works out for you. Maybe a used engine might even have fewer miles on it than your old one did. Good luck.

How deep of water did you go in, any idea? I've got a CAI and this is a constant anxiety of mine - and yes I have a bypass filter, just don't have the heart to cut my intake tube in half to fit it in.

mine was str8 and had no bypass filter however my car is lowered with regular lowering springs nothing drastik like sitting on the ground or anything but the water was pretty deep not as deep to come into my car but it was enough for my cold air intake "filter sits right under the driver side headlight" to suck up the water.

yup thats what i will do if i get another engine in my car, i will probably have the mechanic that takes it out to hold it and see how much he will charge me to do customer performance work to it while its sitting out and i have a engine to get around on. im hoping for the best, never been in this position before.
