Yes the ECU is powerful but we need OBD-II (US EPA mandated onboard diagnostics) and the Motecs support it.

As far as the cat here in California the car will stick out. Many of the local police will assume this it is a modified US car. After a while I may go the whole Hi-flow aftermarket cat route. If I were caught without a cat the fine is huge. Every three years we have to be "smogged" (go through an emissions test.)

How much louder is the HKS?

Do you know anything about the “low-slung” suspension on the RS-II it seems similar to the German markets cars. Any idea how much lower they are?

Thanks for all the help. I will keep you posted. The car should be at the entry port in early April. I can’t wait to see it.

Erik

Yes it can be gestapo like. If they believe it is too loud (with no proof or even a measuring device) they can give you a ticket and ordered to fix it. That is when the decat would show up.

No, the spec sheet I got from Mitsubishi lists that low-slung suspension is standard on RS-II.

Yeah, in a lot of small towns and residential areas they have sound restrictions, but that is generally only a problem for Hondas that have outrageously loud exhaust or older muscle cars. As for the cat problem, some states still make you go through emissions, and that is how they determine if you're good to go in that front.

Back to the cop thing. Its espically worse in California. If cops want to give you a ticket, they will find the smallest detail wrong with your car, there is no use fighting it. Now with the exhaust thing, I always remembered it as under 90db and its legal but recently I saw a video on the web where a cop said it was 80db. Even if your car is 79db, however, you will still get a ticket and there is no use fighting it. One of SportCompactCar's editiors writes a column monthly with updates on the situation. Check it out.

The CA law is 95 dba 20 inches from the tail pipe revving from 3000 - 5000 rpm. This would be easy to measure but in California but they don't. A cop will write out a fix-it ticket and never test it. The CHP don’t even have the SPL measurement equipment to test it. If you dispute it they just let another cop listen to and make a judgment. Just another California money making scam. BTW, I’ve never seen a Harley-Davidson stopped for loud exhaust.

I've never seen a harley, pick up, or muscle car pulled over for obvious illegal things, but I get crap all the time for my import just like everyone else around here. Guess that's what happens when you live in mulletville
