AWD would be FWD but transferring some torque to the rear wheels if the front slips

All this sounds nice but the price tag will probably make me get a lancer ES anyways.

Wow, Mitsu is bringing Mivec.

The FTO 6 banger MIVEC pumps about 200 HP from a paltry 2.0L while the 1.6L MIVEC pumps out approx 175, but track tests in Japan have proved it running close to 150-155 HP. At best was 160 HP at flywheel.

Guess HP wise: under 200 HP. Mitsu will not market it to kill the eclipse gt.

Cost wise: 22 - 26K. It will not sit as low to compete sale on the OZ.

Also, I have forgotten to ask. I thought Mitsu killed the MIVEC tech on the FTO in 00, except in small cars for their home market. I have a suspicion that Mitsu might bring MIVEC MD tech into the new engine. If so, many will be disappointed.

Search the net for MIVEC MD.

20-22K will be competing with a base model RS eclipse. I haven't look at the galant yet.

The MIVEC MD died in 1996 after the launch of the GDI engine.
The MIVEC engine we are getting is new and not necessarily directly related to the system we know from the 6A13.
The just released COLT has a MIVEC engine that really isn't one. The system used is VVT but it's not the actual MIVEC developed. So, who know's what we'll actually be getting
All we know is is calling it MIVEC and that it will be a more powerful version of the 2.4l I-4 (4G64 ??)

How can the MIVEC MD died that early since late model FTO owners were complaining about it? The same for those MIVEC cyborg owners.

Damn good material. Read the first 2 Q&A. It will explain all the excuses why Mitsu fudged on the data for the 1.6L MIVEC.

The MIVEC-MD was based off the caddy allante of the past. Dropping half cyl on conservative mode.

2004 Lancer Press Release w/ Photo

Mitsubishi Motors Reveals the 2004 Lancer at The Canadian International Auto Show

Announces Lancer Evolution Participation in First Canadian Rally Race

TORONTO, Feb. 12 /CNW/ - The 2004 Lancer LS displayed today at the Canadian International Auto Show previews the Lancer series' revised styling, offering the Canadian media its first glimpse at the vehicles refreshed front and rear design details. Mitsubishi also announced the expansion of the Lancer family with the addition of an exciting front-wheel-drive performance variant, the Lancer Ralliart.

In 2003, the Lancer ES was recognized by the Automobile Journalist Association of Canada as the best new economy car under $18,000 for its styling, pricing and real-road performance. Lancer ES is a strong contender in the highly competitive Canadian compact market segment. Canadian consumers are validating the win with just under 2,600 sold in the five short months that Mitsubishi Motors has been open for business in Canada.

The 2004 Lancer's new look provides the exterior of all trim lines with a more expressive, exciting and youthful attitude. The chiseled, extended split- grille helps alter the proportion and silhouette of the 2004 Lancer, adding a greater sense of sportiness and elegance, and provides a clear view into Mitsubishi Motors' global design direction. The split-grille prominently features Mitsubishi's triple-diamond logo, with its pyramid shape providing stability and balance to the vehicle's overall design. The split-grille theme is a design icon that will continue to evolve and will appear in all future Mitsubishi Motors products around the world, including the redesigned Diamante, the completely new Galant, and elsewhere in our growing family of Lancer products.

The 2004 Lancer LS on display at the Canadian International Auto Show is a well-equipped compact sedan that includes a power glass sunroof as standard equipment for 2004 and also offers ABS with EBD. The vehicle is equipped and packaged to offer tremendous value in Canada's highly competitive compact
sedan segment.

The new 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart creates excitement behind the wheel by delivering improved acceleration and sharper handling in an affordable package. This front-wheel-drive, four-door Lancer sedan has been treated to a host of drivetrain, suspension and styling modifications designed to appeal to enthusiast drivers. Equipped with a larger, more powerful, 2.4-liter motor and a stiffer set of coil springs and shocks, the Lancer Ralliart offers a swift, responsive package that is also a performance value.

As it appears on the Ralliart model, the new Lancer will wear an extended front fascia and revised decklid common to all 2004 Lancer models. This revised front end has been fitted with a sporty split-grille arrangement, as well as a new, sculpted halogen lamp arrangement. Attractive clear taillight lenses and a unique aerodynamic package, which includes a new rear wing, help complete the Lancer Ralliart's impressive visual package.

As tribute to the Lancer family of products, and building on a history of success in rally racing, Mitsubishi Motors also announced that Team Mitsubishi Motorsports America will compete in the Canadian Rally Championship event to be held March 1 and 2 in Quebec City. In their pursuit of outright victory in the event, Team Mitsubishi Motorsports America will compete with two SCCA ProRally, Open Class-spec, all-wheel-drive Lancer Evolution sedans that produce in excess of 400 horsepower.

In Canada, the award-winning Lancer is currently available in three distinct trim lines. The Lancer ES offers value with more standard equipment than you'd expect for an entry-level small car. The Lancer LS adds more luxury, convenience and safety features at an excellent price. And the OZ-Rally edition is a fully loaded model equipped with popular styling enhancements.

Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc., (MMNA) is responsible for all of the North American operations of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation. As a single company consolidated on January 1, 2003, MMNA and its subsidiaries manufacture, distribute, finance and market Mitsubishi brand coupes, convertibles, sedans and sport utility vehicles through a network of nearly 700 dealers in the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. Mitsubishi Motors sold its first vehicle in the U.S. in 1981, and began building cars here in 1988 at its manufacturing facility in Normal, Ill.

Thanks for sharing the article!!

Even though I like the idea of a RALLIART Lancer (we all do!), the styling leaves something to be desired. The picture's too small for me to judge on it, so I'll wait 'til official pics are released. Mitsubishi definitely deserves some props for giving us what we like (performancewise)!

Thank You !!!
