If you get any kind of short shifter or, moreso, firmer shifter bushings, you'll probably notice this even more. Changing the gear oil helped smooth out my shifts a lot.

Yeah, pretty common problem, if you look you can find several similar posts on this topic. Good luck.

Very common. You get used to it. After upgrading everything, my shifter is so firm that the fiancee can't even get it in reverse.

Yup, mine sometimes does it from 1-2 and 3-4.. early on when I was first learning to drive a stick I would always miss 4th because it never would go in. lol. Now I just slam 2nd and 4th a little harder and it loosened up a bit. Never had a problem with reverse though, smooth as butter. I just ordered a short shifter with the bushings from RRM.. I'm sick of the long throw John Deere tractor shifting.

I don't have an OZ, but I know when it's cold, it's harder to shift. And I think right around 3-4k rpm's for the evo the shifter practically jumps out of the gate, it's so smooth. But sometimes it does become hard.

It would be cheaper to buy a new lancer in a manual. It has been discussed to death before.

Put BG synchroshift in, it makes it smooth as a babies bottom.

I recall reading that if you swap out the shifter, its a good idea to relube everything every once in a while. Even though you're stock, maybe its time to bust out the grease?

edit, right, your other question.. I went with the ebay short shifter and I installed all the Kartboy bushings at the same time. My gearbox shifts like a **** now, and its probably more due to the bushings than the shifter. People will swear up and down that the B&M is the only way to go, and others still will say that the ebay one is just as good.

Either way, get the bushings, too, and you'll be a happy person
