Is this normal?

I got home from visiting a friend's place and I popped the hood real quick to check something and I noticed my exhaust manifold was glowing a faint red. I know that means it's hot but i never knew it gets hot enough to glow red. Yes the run back from my friend was VERY harsh (redlining on every gear, and doing 90-100 on the freeway).

The coolant/water temp is normal and everything else seems normal, so should I be worrying? I parked the car outside of the garage tonite just in case it catches fire.

You must've been riding that throttle hard!! You're water temp would've been fine with all that air passing through the radiator on the highway. I have yet to see a glowing red hot manifold in person. As long as you keep your oil fresh and coolant topped you should be OK. Take care of your car and it'll take care of you.

Like they said I wouldn't want to see my car doing that. I'd make sure you have enough fluids and such though just in case.... it may help if you had a couple mods to help the engine out.... but if ur on the stock header I can see how the hot air may be backed up into there a little bit.

Thats awesome!!! Do it again and take a pic and put it as ur avatar.. lololol. Like N1te said.. the hot exhaust might have been getting backed up because of the restriction. As long as your coolant is circulating and keeping the engine cool, you are fine. Bonus.

The warmup cat is in the stock exhaust manifold too (assuming you don't have an aftermarket header), so that could certainly increase the heat on top of the restriction issue. It's not something I'd lose sleep over, but I'd probably go through the same fluid checks everyone's recommended.

Aight well I have already checked the fluids and stuff, looks fine. I guess flooring it at every light and redlining every gear could make the manifold glow red from the heat, i'll do it again and post pix

ok, it looks like my oil is burnt to hell

Im not due for a change for another 2k miles (change every 5k on castrol syntec) but it's already pretty brown. The equivalent of a chocolatey brown. The coolant looks ok though.

Oil breaks down a whole lot quicker when you ride your engine hard. Change it as soon as you get a chance.

oil is gonna get brown/black no matter what. If you're super concerned and have $20 laying around, see if there's a place you can send a sample for testing
