Exhaust/Headers/HF Cat Q

I recently bought and installed a Magnaflow Cat-Back along with RRM SRI. I'm hoping I can get my hands on RRM Headers and a Magnaflow Highflow Cat next. Do you guys recommend getting headers and a HF cat? I've done some reading around and have found that people get "ricey" sounds from these. I don't want any "ricey" sounds coming from my car lol. How much power can I expect to gain with these 2 mods? And what can I do to avoid any "ricey" sounds? Thanks!

The "ricey" sound comes from the open exhaust system, its unavoidable really. There's a nice thread on here about the problems of an open exhaust on an NA engine. Basically you might actually lose some power, especially in the low end, but you should gain some in the top. Power wise I have no idea, no one has ever dynoed their car with only those mods on them, most people wait till they turbo. I'd guess your looking at maybe 10-15hp for the whole thing, but even that might be a little high.

I thought it was supposed to sound 'ricey' with the testpipe.. ask Rob @ rrm but I'm pretty sure the high flow cat takes care of that.

Yeah it'll sound "rciey" regardless, some people have just the magnaflow exhaust and the header and it has that high pitch whine to it.

If you want a high flow cat and headers get a magnaflow resonator and it gets rid of the high pitch exhaust noise (ricey sound) My car sounds great and as someone said before you dont want to totally open it up. I felt no loss of power when I installed mine. The exhaust note went alot deeper too.

yea, get a resonator. when i first got my buschur catback i was disappointed it sounded like that and was embarrassed to go to the higher rpms. after i installed a magnaflow resonator it went away.

good article, but you have to take into account that are cars are desogned as econoboxes so what they are saying about air filters and exhaust doesn't apply as much to us. they tested a Peugot 205 gti and that car is a bit perfomanced based stock so yeah the stock components are gonna be pretty good.

Header is prolly the best single bolt on mod for N/A guys. It is true both header and HF cat will make the car a little loud. If you find that to be true add a resonator. Regardless, get the header then decide if you want to go HF Cat. You can never go wrong with a header.
