AEM CAI problem/question

Hello everyone, I tried searching but found nothing so I am asking for your knowledge.

The rainy season has passed in Southern Cali and I have removed my short ram intake and once again put on the long pipe for the cold air intake and am running in to some issues. I hear a constant clicking sound back to where the intake connects to the manifold. What can this be? The car idles at about 500 RPMs but I am afraid something is wrong. I dissconnected the battery and left it off for about 7 minutes and then let it idle for 5. If this could be the issue I will let it idle longer before driving it to work tomorro. The filter isnt too bad. It rubbed once or twice against the battery but thats a very small portion. And one last question. When it idles the engine sounds a little noisy its not very quiet almost like you think you can rear the pistons. (but it does not sound like piston stutter)

Please let me know what it might be,
Thanks
BEN

If you're idling it's quite possibly the stepper motor if it's not noisy lifters. I'm guessing stepper motor trying to readjust idle. Nothing abnormal.

nicktutt420 (what I am implying)
When I first put it on I never had any issues. But when it began to rain then I made it a short ram for the meantime and you know when you shortenthe filter the engine gets a bit louder I believe. So now after putting back to cold I notice these things. Just wanted to put the question out there...In case anyone has run into this before.
The car did drive ok today to work, we will see how the day holds out.
But Thanks everyone.

not really much of a difference, just the sound. cold air is better, but it really wont make any difference in gains for the lancer.

depends on what your looking for. short ram is better with low end response, and cold air is better for top end...but the differences aren't huge IMO.

no gains? hah... I noticed a very significant gain when I ripped off that stock airbox and cardboard filter and swapped it for my Injen SRI. If you live in an area where there is flooding/rain and lots of snow, you should go with a short ram so the filter doesn't get drowned or ruined.

I had a thread somewere a while back concerning a "battery" looking thing under the drivers side rear bumper. Take a look at it from underneath your car. It has something to do with exhaust gas return and emissions. That could be making the noise.. or it could be the fuel pump. I don't think there's too much in the rear that can make noise.

gain difference between the sri and cai will be minimal, not from stock to getting aftermarket. i noticed a fair difference when i put my injen cai on too.

I still say the gain is minimal with any aftermarket intake. Sure it's a gain, but minimal as already said.
