AMEN! ^^ The wiring diagrams give me a headache. I have better luck finding it all out by tearing the dash apart. Thats how I managed wiring my window control modules and alarm

Alex, I love you for that link. Now if you'd give me money I'd love you even more.

This is a difficult game to play. Stuff to properly control or modify ECU parameters is quite specialized and requires a super hacker to do yourself and the proper hardware.

haha, sounds like a job for my crew at college. Good thing we have all the ECU programming stuff and adapters to hook them up and unlock the software (at my college--U of M Dearborn). I've seen them do it before with other ecu's. We have an automotive program since we are located right next to Ford World Headquarters, and they sponsor it pretty heavily. I wonder if I could get my ECU in there next semester coming up..

what kind of specialized hardware ? Something that can tap into the actual ECU system calls and all that ? I don't have such hardware, but I'm gonna look to see where I can get my hands on it (if it's not that expensive). As for the programming, if I'd get my hands on the ECU specs and I can get a system dump of the ECU, I could probably figure it out, I've done some hardcore low-level programming a few months ago I'm not gonna just start messing with my car's ECU, it's my only car, so I'd shoot myself in the foot Anyone who can provide more info, I'd appreciate it.

ok, the one's I've seen them do at college were with the actual ECU itself. They have a little add-on adapter that hooks up to a computer with software that you can unlock the ECU with, and reprogram it as you want. It looks like this.

There is another option too, you can replace the EEPROM (electronically erasable programable read only memory) with another add on chip to code yourself.. shown here.

Or somehow if you had the right tool that plugs into the OBDII port, I've seen some ECU's programmed that way, I don't know about the lancer though.

so maybe I could get an actual ECU and play with that ? And what exactly do you mean by unlocking the ECU ? Is it somehow encrypted ? Or just unlock it to be able to write to it ? How about getting the actual ECU programming specs from mitsu that describes which address is connected to what ?

I don't now exactly how it works, but I know you aren't supposed to be able to change any settings on your own under normal circumstances. Maybe somebody else could explain it.

I'm pretty sure Mitsubishi solders their EEPROMs in place now. Just a heads up.

even if you get the eeprom out, you'd have to read it and have to know what each register is used for, or however they have it set up.
