Is It Worth It?
Is It Worth It?
Ok heres the deal.... I have a nissan 200sx se the 1.6 liter version. I have the oppertunity to buy a 2002 lancer es for 5 grand. I was just wandering if it was worth it to buy the lancer. I have a small budget (I put money in my car as I get it and that's very little) and I just wanted to know if the lancer es is a good somewhat beginning tuner car for me or is there something else out there that I should look at that might be easier and cheaper but still cost around what I would be paying for the lancer. I would like to add that I would be putting the mods on myself. I'll have help and I also need to stay N/A because I can't add a turbo until I take over my own insurance.
Thanks,

not the best platform, but i like it because its not common, its a lot more expensive to play with the lancer because there isnt really a lot of people doing it so aftermarket isnt the gretest but its getting there....
Yeah, I think your Nissan is a better beginning tuning car. The Lancer is really a glorified Civic and those that tune it like to spend lots of money, mainly because they have a fetish with making less popular slow cars go fast.
The only way you'll make decent power is if you go with either a turbo setup or a supercharger. Neither is cheap and you said you wanted to stay N/A. If you want to stay N/A and make power you better start saving now because most bolt-ons won't give any significant gain.
Tuner-In-Training, (lol i like that)
To be honest, it doesnt matter if it is worth it to us. The question is "Is it worth it to you?"
Of course we are going to tell you to buy it, we drive lancers ourselves. However is it economical for you to buy it for your daily driver?
If yes, buy it.
If no, don't buy it.
Very simple.

I love my lancer. Wouldnt give it up for any other car right now. But like OZLancerlunatic said, if its worth it to you go with it, but if your not willing to spend all that money to not make it that much more faster, stay with your 240sx
buy it for handling. a couple bars and coils later im flyin so fast around corners its just silly. u should see the look on my face. plastered smile... u guys kno what i mean.....
Edit: Sorry read your first post wrong.
The Lancer is a great car for daily driving with very little room for tuning
Keep your 240 and drop in an SR-20 (Black Top for relibility, Red top for A little extra power)
The 240 is a great car with lots of potential for tunning. The Lancer is a great car with very little room for tuning.

yeah, it can get upwards of 250 hp, def not the best platform for speed, but mine handles awsome. i cant turn enough these days or fast enough. i outhanlde my friends celica in road courses. and now im gonna be doing engine work so its gonna get fun! i like my lil car it does well for its self and its something different. theirs only like 3 or 4 fixed up lancers in my whole city (san fernando valley Los angeles) and i like that. i see a bazillion civics and neons. i am the rare one. its nice. and we have some awsome companies to back us like rrm rmr and ripp.
