OK ... I AM ASKING THIS CAUSE IM NOT SURE WHAT THE LAWS ARE. I WAS LOOKING INTO CHANGEING MY OZ WING AND BUYING THE EVO 8 WING. BUT THE THING IS. ON THE OZ WING, THERES THAT LIGHT, THAT COMES ON WHEN YOU BRAKE. (YES I DONT KNOW THE NAME FOR IT) WELL, IF YOU REPLACE THE OZ WING, AND PUT ON THE EVO 8 WING. YOU WONT HAVE THAT NE MORE. NOW IS THAT OK, OR WILL I BE GETTING PULLED OVER ALL THE TIME? HOW WOULD YOU REPLACE THAT BRAKE LIGHT IF IT IS ILLEGAL? LOOKING FOR SOME HELP. HOPE SOMEONE CAN REALLY HELP ME OUT.

 

I'm sure the laws are different everywhere but if you need the 3rd brake light I here you can just buy one at a mitsubishi dealership.you can get the evo 3rd brake light and install it in your car.

 

I dont have the light anymore and I never get harrased for it either. I get pulled over for all sorts of stupid stuff like ride hight of my car and what not but never in the last year for the third rear brake light.

 

Not all cars have a third brake light...why would this be illegal? I've done this conversion, no biggie...

 

all cars made after a certain year are required to have a 3rd brake light (same w/ air bags)...you usually wont get harrased unles you have the light and the cop sees it is out. Or the cop is looking to get you on anything possible. You may not pass inspection without it.

oz has the wiring for the 3rd brake light that goes in the back window. The wire is under the deck lid and you can just run it up and attach the break light off of the ES or LS from the dealorship.

 

dont worry about that because the cops dont even know that this car comes with the breal light on the wing. Most of the cops are really dumb about noticing difference between oz, RA, es and evos. For them, they all look alike so no worries, u can go ahead and put that ****t on.

However, some cops will think that it is an evo so they will look for more chances to pull you over. Putting an evo wing might increase your chances of getting pulled over, other than that, u are ok.

Just to let u know, some mitsu stealerships do offer an evo wing on the es, oz and ra for more money so that is your back up excuse incase the cop tries to get u in trouble.

I had a shop tell me that my car wouldn't pass inspection because I upgraded my wing and got rid of the 3rd brake light. It is true that any car after a certain year has to have one in some way or fashion. Most cops don't care, and some shops don't either. Depends where you are, who you go to, etc. What I did was I got a $10 universal 3rd brake light that I put in every year just to get it to pass inspection, and then I take it right back out after I get my sticker! Having to do that once a year is worth it to have a nicer wing!

 

^^ That's a false statement. As started earlier, all new vehicles are required by law to have a third brake light. If your wing doesn't have it, you must have one in the rear window. Now, whether you get pulled over or not depends on your local law enforcement, however, it doesn't change the law and you will fail inspections. I'm sure you could find one for cheap like from www.mitsubishiparts.net or the like. I'd even try some wrecking yards or people parting out their wrecks and get one for cheap.
