Getting the most out of the manual 4g94?
I was just wondering everyone's take on when is the best rpm to shift each gear? Also wondering if this is only theory and experience or if there is a science behind shifting based on engine specs?
i've found not mashing the pedal til about 3k in first, shifting out of first about 5.5k then redlining 3 & 4th gear.

You don't say what kind of driving you're doing but here's my .02
On the street I usually shift about 2500 - 3000. If i'm low on gas, i short shift at about 2000.
Drag racing i have been shifting at redline ( 6000 ) or a little above to keep the engine in the power band. I am having issues with my third gear and I am planning on getting a new clutch and flywheel next month - but that's just me.
Good luck and keep on drivin'

yea im talking about drag racing. i have found 2nd to be the "slow" gear when shifting from 1st, but from a roll at about 30 2nd is quick. not sure if that is because of the gearing or engine timing?
I believe it's because of the gearing inside the transmission.
Oh yea, forgot to add that i launch about 2500 - 3000 and i slip the clutch just a bit. That gives me some good reaction times.

Best answer - get your car dynoed. You'll learn at which RPM point your motor hits peak HP. From then on, just upshift as soon as you hit that point.
(For example, my RS redlines at 6200. But peak HP is at 5600. So I can go to redline, but it's a waste.)

its not a waste if the point you shift at is still higher than where you would be in the higher gear.. you want to shift and have roughly the same amount of power to the wheels and catch it as your power band starts to rise

My ride has catback, test pipe, CAI, ground wires (if that even matters), NGK spark plugs, and short shifter w/ shifter bushings as far as engine performance and shifting gears and what not.
so this is what i've noticed at a stop, no power comes till 2500-3000 rpm on 1st. 5500-6000 there's surge/kick of power, but it tends to lag to lose in power after that in the redline. 2nd pulls hard and goes past a lil on 6000 rpm.
but I have to agree on a roll at 30 in 2nd, that's some good stuff and it really flies. I still can't take on a Acura GSR w/ exhaust+intake.
