grinding noise!?!?

Ok, so I've been having a problem for a while now. Whenever I drive I hear like a grinding noise and when I brake, it sounds even worse. Do you think it could be my brake pads?? I will be jacking the car up and taking a look tomorrow. Is there anythign else it could be besides the brakes and anything else I should look for when I have it jacked up? Any help appreciated.

Your pads are most likely metal to metal with the rotor. You probably have between 35-45,000 miles and thats when they need to be replaced. By the sound of it your going to need new rotors too. Take your front tires off and feel the inside of the rotor and feel if theres any harshness to the roto suface. If there is, start ordering.

sadly, you probably wouldn't have "needed" new rotors if the pads had been changed.

If the mechanic determines that you don'tneed new pads/rotors there is a special gel that they can coat the pads with that reduces certain vibrations. These vibrations often will be the cause of the "squeaking".

On the positive side it gives him the opportunity to get performance pads and rotors.
Also, if they aren't in too bad of shape you can get them turned.
