how much do you pay for oil change (do it yourself)

i usually had them done, but today I went to the dealer and they wanted $80CAD for an oil change with synthetic oil. last time i remember it being much cheaper..

anyways, screw paying 80 bucks for an oil change. how much do you figure the total do-it-yourself cost would be? $20?
is changing the oil on lancers as easy as every other car?

Full syn oil $20, Fram X2 oil filter $10, changing your car's life-blood...priceless.

30 bucks through mitsubishi dealership, that 80 bucks sound like your 36,000 mile tune up or maybe thats with top of the line oil, filter, car wash, vacuuming, tire rotation, belt change. j/k heck maybe canada is just overpriced. but for the most part 24.99-34.99 is probably average to most people.

yeah it was $80 for oil change only, he told me it is $12 per bottle and 4 are needed + tax + labor etc. the regular oil change came out to $36CAD.. but I'm using synthetic, so I don't want to go back and forth.

anyway thanks for the replies you confirmed my suspicions.. I will just do it myself.

Any particular oil i should look out for? what do you guys use?

i put some mobil 1 synthetic, i was running low .. !! im so stupid i should have checked my oil more often with all the mileage i do.

i've been running synthetic for the past 60,000km and i haven't noticed any problems. does anyone have any documentation about the oil pump issue described above? i would be very interested in learning more about that since i usually use synthetic! if it's better to use normal oil, i would do that since it's cheaper.

Hell yeah it does, but it's not lifetime. I used to work at Mitsubishi/Subaru service and I stoled about 10 free oil change pass with 10 point inspection.

I figure RRM knows what they're talking about so I listen to their instructions! They say to use a good quality 20W-50 with their turbo, so that's what I use. The stuff is as thick as molasses! Changing the oil is cheap though, I buy my oil by the case and they run like $17 for a case (I can get a couple of oil changes out of a case) and then the filter is like $5 or somthing like that. So its definitly cheaper to do it yourself, and way more fun!
