Question Something I have been thinking about.

With the winter season here and me having the tendency to baby my car I was looking into this A cold block heater
Is something like this necessary or is it just some thing that is a waste of money and is not going to do much?

By the way where in the world would it mount and how would it protect my engine?

If you live in extreme climates, like temperatures dropping well below 0 then it would be beneficial, but for u (in SC) I wouldnt worry about it.

i have something similar on my outback.....you basically plug this heater into an extension cord or wall outlet and it keeps the engine warm. This way when you go to start up the car on a super cold morning the engine's already warmed up like it's been run already.

Basically it allows for a much smoother and responsive start on really cold days

Hey, in Aiken you get pretty much the same weather I do here. Do worry about it, not going to be necessary... unless we're entering a new ice age because of that massive glacier that broke off up north is heading our way!!!

If I was you guys, I wouldn't worry about a block heater... My lancer has never fail to start... even in a week of -20C ( -4F ) ... even when I went back east to my home town.. it was -30C (-22F ) during my xmas vacation... she started like a champ

Another important question is will the heat be warmer faster with one? That's a good thing to have in my area.

Up here in Ohio it's nice, start the car in the morning and it's practically warm, definately warm enough to drive instantly without any warm-up time.
