question about automatic vs manual

I installed my catback, headers, high-flow cat, and piggyback yesterday. on the way home from a seattle evo meet i was pushing my car a bit to feel the gains difference, i ended up catchin up with another lancer ( oz 5 speed ) that was at the meet and noticed that she was keeping up with my neck and neck until my transmission dropped into 5th ( it didn't drop until we were already at like 100, i think )

but anyways, all i can remember her having performance whys was springs and exhaust, how come i wasn't able to pull away, even a little bit?

EDIT:

i have an auto, she has a manual, my basic question is how come from ~60mph pull she could keep up with far less mods

wat kind of gas u use..? i kno ppl say that gas doesnt matter. But if u put 93 it would be more responsive.

Anywayz manual almost everytime is better than auto... cause u have more control of the car

Maybe because she has more gears than you. I assume since you have an auto its only a 4 speed.

she really cant wait to much longer, and besides we peek earlier than red line. so it doesnt matter, what u are seeing is the gain u have in high end and her car putting more hp to the floor due to less tranny loss.

You should have just made a thread called "I don't understand gearing at all."

god damnit, i had someone with my in my car at the meet and i thought i had 4 gears, but they swore that when it hit 6000 rpms and dropped down again it was a 5th gear, i thought that sounded resonable because that's when i started to pull away

She could drop to third than use fourth gear than fifth. You never dropped a gear. Better pull and as said before less hp loss through a manual. Learn to drive a stick like 99% of racers out there.

i cant drive a stick, i had reconstructive surgery on my left foot, i can't feel at all how much pressure i'm putting down and i don't want to burn through a clutch trying to learn to use my knee right now :[

i want an evo so i'll end up having to learn to feel with my knee, but for now an auto will have to do ( i dont have the money to replace a clutch in a couple months )

i thought about sporttronic or whatever it's called but they only had it on an eclipse and it was a pile of ****

If you can't feel the pedal right, don't buy a manual, period. If you're worried about having to replace the clutch on a lancer every few months you'd better be prepared to replace a clutch on an evo every few weeks.
