What "basics" should I get?!?
I got an awesome surprise in the mail the other day......about $4,000 from the Abercrombie and Fitch lawsuit! I want to treat my car to a little something (haha, not the whole $4,000 worth, I need to save most of it!).
Im ok with the cars looks, so I want to improve the performance. This is a stock, automatic Lancer OZ. I think the car sounds too quiet and polite...what might give it a deep tone or make this thing sound a little more aggressive?
If anyone has ideas on how much certain parts cost and how much it is to install please let me know.

Ive got an 02 OZ . . . Id say go Injen Short-Ram Intake (200$), RRM Header (350$), Magnaflow Cat-Back (300$), RRM Crank Pulley (90$), and the RRM PiggyBack ECU (430$) . . . Total 1370$ youll have 2630$ left for your savings if you can install it all yourself, and none of its that hard. Oh you might wanna consider some Tein Springs, about 200$. Theres my .02$

And don't do a thing to your car until you figure out what you want to do. If I were you I'd go with a RRM turbo.

Chalk this up as another reason I wouldn't work for/wear Abercrombie crap, it's nothing but an over-priced status symbol. Seriously, if I wanted ripped jeans, instead of paying $85 for them I'd buy Levi's and cut them myself and take the $40 I saved and do something to my car.
If you just want some sound and minimal gains get some sort of short ram air intake (injen, rrm), catback exhaust (greddy, magnaflow, buschur if they still make it), and header (rrm, or kamikaze if you don't plan on getting a rrm turbo kit later).
If you want to save most of your money though I would recommend going the suspension route. Get some lowering springs if you don't want to dish out $800 for coilovers, k-bar from rrm or pdx, rear strut bar from those same brands, etc. Also look into getting some slotted rotors and axxis brake pads.
Suspension/brake mods have been my favorite so far. Performance mods, unless you go forced induction, are really just a waste of money if you want substantial power.

Put your money back in your pants and do some reading. If you go fishing like this you're not necessarily going to get the answer you want. You'll get the answer everybody who replies wants. Read existing threads. Run searches on the forums and the web. Educate yourself and make your own decisions. You'll be a lot happier with the results.
And to piggyback off what Hobie said,
THINK.
Don't ask us.
Think about your car. About your plans. What do you want from your car? A great show car? A 14-second dragster? A corner-carver?
Then get the mods that you'd need.

ok, the question was what to get for engine sound and performance. I got the K&N typhoon short ram intake and the magnaflow axelback exhaust and that improved the sound of the overall car greatly. I love the sound. I heard headers will make your engine sound more high pitched. so if you want deep go with an intake and exhaust.
