question about parts from my lancer

i'm going to get some stuff from my car tomorow, i was told if i took stuff off ( like my headers and exhaust ) i may f*** myself over when my adjuster looks at the car and could claim it was a mechanical failure that was my fault or that took something like a turbo off to hide it from them.

my queston is, is that true? if it is, can i take other things off? my tails are intact still and i'd like to take them off to sell, i think i still had 1 wheel attached to my car too ( lol )

it's at a junk yard and they won't tell me when they're going to look at it. all they will tell me is that if it's a total loss they're towing it somewere else

To the best of my understanding, you are only entitled to take off any aftermarket parts that you are not claiming under the insurance, and you're supposed to replace them with the stock part at that time. Aside from that, you have to get specific authorization from your insurance company to take anything else off. Otherwise, your insurance company can throw out the claim. I did this when my brothers Firebird was in the junkyard. They allowed me to remove his aftermarket GTA rims as long as we replaced them with any type of wheel (that was nice of them). Too bad when we got there we realized that his wheel lock key had burned/dissapeared with the rest of his interior Gorilla wheel locks work well, folks, we couldn't get those suckers to break with a 1/4" x 2' threaded rod and 8 lb sledgehammer!

i have my wheel lock!

but only one wheel left, lmao.

my front wheels along with the controls arms were a good 30 yards from my car, 2 rims cracked ( one all of the spokes were intact and the outside rim was intact, just not together! )

the insurance company cant do anything w/o your consent. they will cut you a check, then offer you a few more bucks to buy the car from you..you can either take the extra money or keep your car, but either way they cant do anythin w/ it w/o asking you first.
As for when they look at it, its pretty much when they get there, i work for a body shop and usually when were expecting an insurance co., they give us like a 2 day window of when they will be there

they told me they were going to tow it to their yard and cut the lean holder a check for the cars value.. they didn't mention anyting extra to buy the car from me

i can refuse to let them take the car, and still get my check for the value of it, right?

If they are totalling the car, they will pay the lein holder for your remaining balance, then give you the remaining portion of the "fair market value". If you would like to keep the entire car, the insurance company will offer you a smaller check.

But instead of buying your entire wrecked car back from them (they own the car the minute they pay you and the financing company the value of it), take the advice above and contact your adjuster. If you just want a few parts off of a "totalled" car, they will most likely let you just take them. They're just selling the car to the junk yard as scraps and spare parts anyway.
