Yeah, I was talking about the "evo 7 style hood" I don't want to cut holes in my hood. If you notice in most kits they have the main hole over the motor then an extra smaller hole right over the SR. You guys have to know what I'm saying...

After reading this and searching around, if you are using a SRI with a heatshield (RMR, Injen) I found this piece that can go over the top of the filter.

I don't know if it defeats the purpose of adding the evo style scoop that RRM sells or not, but that would keep the water out.

Wow! That would be perfect...I would just need to get that SRI instead of the RRM one I have now. Nice find!

Thanks, click here for prices and sizes. Warning, kinda pricey for a piece of metal.

I just went to autoparts.com and bought a K&N filter wrap (that's their terminology) I had to buy an '03 model version, but as I suspected they're all the same. It was like $26 after shipping for a tiny little piece, but the peace of mind is worth it. I think it would allow a little better airflow than a piece of metal. But without the extra heat shielding benefits. I like this wrap as I still plan on installing my hood vent. And besides, with my accident history, a hood will never make too much of a difference, unfortunately.... but hey, none of them were MY fault!

If you're talking about some of us driving around with no hood a couple of years ago, it started with Vince removing his stock hood at Richard's house then driving sans the hood to pick up the new carbon fiber one he ordered. The Richard drove around with Vince's hood (t-grey hood on a white Lancer) just to be ricey for a week, then I got my hood bent by an autocross tech inspector and Vince traded his old one for my bent one, causing me to remove it at his house and drive through Orange County without one to get his back from Richard!

And yes, I think a vent to a Short Ram (and sealing it off to make a true ram air) would be the best set-up, but like Hobie said, you're probably talking about a .001 hp difference there.
