Anyone want to write up a DIY in the How To section. It seems alot of people will need this and benifit form it. (In 60K miles I will too )

I changed my timing belt a while back. It wasn't too tough. (till I accidentally spun the camshaft) Just remember that the timing belt cover breaks easily, and an impact wrench makes getting the pulley bolt off much easier.

Everybody chant!
I agree though, I would love to do this myself if I could do it in an hour or less. if not, i'm taking it in this month.

Ask the dealer parts counter guy, any DSM owner or anyone that is familiar with Mitsubishi maitenance. When you take the load off the pulley and put it back on. (Take the belt off and put it back on) you stress that shaft seal and now its a waiting game.
Not true. We replace lots of timing belts and if there is evidence of the pump leaking or starting to seep, we will advise the customer of that condition. There is nothing that indicates that the water pump is guaranteed to start leaking just because you take the load off and re-load it. It may have happened to you but in the last 10 years of selling only Mitsu parts to our Mitsu only service department I've never heard of such a thing. We sell things to customers that they NEED. Not things they MIGHT or MIGHT NOT need. Thats bad info dude.

P.S. the timing belts in all MITSU's are a maintenance item due to be replaced at 60K miles. After that, it is a tickng time bomb. Our rule is that if you replace it BEFORE it breaks it will cost you about 10% of what it will cost you WHEN it breaks.

That yellow top battery is a POS. I used one when i started competing in usaci spl and it sucked. I left my car in the garage for one week and the battery was out. It would not even accept a charge. Get a kinetic battery. They have a 2400 amp deep cycle battery that should fit under the hood.

$165 in parts and an afternoon of work keeps you in business for 60,000 more miles. $.00275 per mile to not worry about the car. Money well spent.
