OIL CHANGE HORROR STORY / Return of old member

First of all, Its been probably a year since Ive posted up on here. I am back.

Anyway back to the story at hand, I was changing my oil yesterday to notice that the autozone guy gave me a box with 3 5w-30 and 2 10w-30 in it (the box was a 10-30 box). Luckely I noticed the diffrence betwene them after I poured the quarts of 5-30 in there. So I had to drive to autozone on 2 quarts only to find out that they dont have any more 5-30's (fully synth). I returned the 10-30 and began my quest. An hour later I found a pep boys with the 5-30 in stock.

I probably drove 60 miles on 2 quarts...which i am sure is bad.Nevertheless it should be ok. But im pissed that now I am going to got to change my oil again before the summer hits because the 5-30 is too light for this car killing heat in las vegas.

Thats my story. The moral is always check your boxes of oil before you leave the store.

Way to re-enter yourself with a great story...

You should have drained the oil, refilled with the used stuff, and then found the correct oil.

Give him a break, but next time remember that 2 quarts is better than nothing but also not even close to 4 quarts you're supposed to have.

Hey, he should have just put some Duralube in there with rocks and debris into the head like the Duralube commericals... It would have done a better job ! LOL...

my question is this:

why didnt you just use the 10-30w along with your 5-30w?? it wont damage your engine using the two weights. i would rather use the two combined instead of driving around with only two quarts of oil in the engine. that is some serious dry starts....not enough oil flow for the rings and cams. especially if you were driving around town looking for other oil.

i think the horror of the story is that he drove around on two quarts of oil on his own instead of just using the other two quarts.

Why do you have to change your oil again before the summer? "5-30 is too light for this car?"

FYI: 5W30 and 10W30 have the SAME viscosity once warmed up. That's what the "30" is. The only difference between the two is that you'll get better cold-starts with 5W30. The "W" stands for "winter".

I was always under the assumption that its best to run 10-30 durring the summer when its hot. Just going by what ppl have told me.
