06 intake/filter question

I have been reading the forums for a little over a month now, and decided to register, and join in on some of the fun. This place looks like it has exactly what im looking for when it comes to my lancer questions. I tried searching for the answer to my first question, but really never found the answer I was looking for. Ill throw it out there and see if anyone can help me out.

Question #1 is: Will a short ram intake, such as the K&N typhoon, void my warranty with mitsubishi? I recently purchased an 06 lancer ES auto, and im interested in a good quality SRI, but im not sure if it will cause problems later on if I would have to use my warranty.

Question #2 would be: If a SRI voids my warranty, would using a drop in filter such as a K&N be worth the money? It seems like a good idea, but for 60 bucks, would I notice any improvement? Im basically asking if these drop in miracle filters are actually worth the money.

Thanks for any help, and sorry if any of these questions have been asked before. Im sure ill have many more questions as im new to mitsubishis in general.

It will only void your warranty if THE INTAKE ITSELF damages your car. So, you should be fine unless a bolt comes loose and sucks into the throttle body.

No, a drop-in is really not worth the money. You might notice a tiny bit, but most people don't notice any chance. I had it, and I don't feel it did anything.

Thanks for the info, and even though I have never personally used a K&N drop in, I hear alot of people saying they use them, but none ever really saying how great they are. So with that being said, I think you are right about them not being worth the money.

I have used SRIs on a couple of cars and noticed a difference, and that is why I would like to go that route with the lancer, however ive never really owned a brand new car that was still under warranty either. I suppose as long as I stick with a quality product there shouldnt be any problems. I have one of the ebay special SRIs on a toyota (it says BOMZ? on the filter), and so far I have never had any trouble with it. I dont know about the quality, but I think I only paid 25 bucks shipped for the whole setup so I cant complain too much. That is on an old car however.

I have been told that K&N, injen, and AEM make SRIs for the lancer, but when I search various sites I find that some of them are only for cars with a manual transmission. Whats the difference in the intake that causes it to not be compatible with an auto tranny car (ie: the AEM SRI)?

Any other suggestions on a worthwhile SRI?

any sri can be used on an auto or manual. a cold air intake can only be used on a manual. the aem intake was probably a cai not a sri.

Since we are talking about intakes, will a AEM for a 02-03 fit my 06?

I tmay be a cold air intake instead of a short ram, I will have to check and make sure. I was also wondering if other intakes for older lancers would fit the 06. There just arent very many aftermarket parts out yet that state they are for the 06 model.

do what i did. Go buy the MAF adapter for 14.00 at pepboys. and then go to kragen and order a 4 inch inlet cone K&N Filter for 44.00 and use that as your SRI. And then when you need your car serviced just remeber to keep all you stock parts and put them back before you go in. they will be none the wiser....

This is prolly your best bet. It's a cheap effective way to get this mod. if you do it any other way, your paying for the tubing and the name. that's about it.

In a month, mine will look like this

ehhh, if you wanna use a drop in filter, run a RA snorkel and use wire cutters to remove the inner funnel piece in the airbox by cutting the rivets. that'll help some.

I used the autozone intake , and just cut the adapter a little shorter so it could look cleaner , and made a custom bracket so it wouldnt move around

Then i bought a injen heatsheild from ebay
