really interesting thread

are any brands better at sidewall resistance. i.e. if you hit a pothole, any brand of tire is subject to reduce the wheel damage compared to another brand?

As for protecting the wheels from pot hole damage hard to say. Once you start moving away from the stock tires and go to the wider aspect ratio 40 and 45 series the sidewall gets stiffer and shorter. They don't have the sidewall flex the stock tires do. The only kind of protection for the wheel the tire can do is to buy tires with the rim protection lip on it. The Parada Spec 2 and ES 100 has it as does the Toyo T1S. I think the FZ4 has it as well, I'd have to look at one at my shop.

Just avoid potholes and curbs that is the best way to avoid damaging the wheels.

Man, you cannot compare Kumhos with Toyo Proxes!!! The Kumhos are cheap tires and the Proxes are about as expensive as they come!! The Kumhos are pretty sorry. I think the Yoko AVSi are much better and you can get a very good price on them....

However, if you have not tried some Kumhos Victoracers on the track, you don't even know what the word "sticky" means... Those are very grippy tires and if you don't buy them shaved, they make a decent rain tire (for track use only). Of course, there is a worls of difference between Victoracers and the street tires that Kumho makes. I'd stay away from them unless price is the absolute main consideration.

Peace,

Manuel

I used Dunlop SP Sport A2 for my ls coupe (RIP). IMO, it was one of my best buys for tires.

Goodyears will cook my wallet alive.

i dunno where u get ur info, but kumho tires are one of the best ones available, theyre very good quality, and the best bang for the buck too, and when i say this, i dont say it as in its cheap and good, i mean its good quality, i thnk it should be priced higher quite frankly.

and just so u know, kumho tires been around for a long time in korea, it was just never released in the US.

one of the best tires are the:

Kumho Ecsta Supra 712's they're effing ince man, with the z or v shapes, great handling, great traction, smooth feeling and it goes for 80 000km, and its covered by the warranty. u can't get any better than that, and these guyers are 80-120bucks a piece.

nitto / toyo tires are overrated man, over done and one. although i love yokohama tires, my summer tires are kumho 712s and my winter tires are yokohama's.

dont judge a tire cuz someone else sez so, u will never know the truth until u actually use it urself.

my kumho tires actually outlasted my toyo proxes and my nitto's, i changed these tires after 3 months of use....2 summers ago...

the more stickier tires like toyo/nitto . . . the less mileage you'll get out of them. Besides, there is no need to have real sticky tires. No one is really pumping beyond 210 HP flywheel, besides the ultrarare TC G94.

As I stated in another email, I sell race tires for living to road racers. So that I think makes me qualified to discuss this. As for where I get my info, I see these tires every weekend and see the end result.

Victorracers are a good tire for competion, only problem is they don't last. They come out of the box almost as fast a Hoosier, but after half a race they tend to go off much quicker. If you want rel race tires for autocross, you must pay the price and that is the A compound Hoosier Radial. Period!

Like I said in earlier posts, Kuhmo has had two price increase since last October. So even the brass at Kuhmo is realizing you can't stay in business by giving product away. FZ4's are very competively priced with the Kuhmo and the Parada Spec2 and ES100's are not a whole lot more. So the price argument is beginning to fly out the window.

I can't say it enough, you get what you pay for in tires. I can sell good wheels with Toyo or Yokohama tires for around the same price as other sell with Kuhmo's.

falken azeni's are great tires. they only have like a 250 tread wear rating, but they are z rated. super grippy, but they are really not for daily driving. they wear too fast for the price (about 200 a piece for 17 205x45
