It would quiet the test pipe. But nothing will silence it. Look at it this way - you now have NOTHING between the motor and the exhaust. So there's not much to kill noise. Just the resonation in the muffler.

Get the biggest resonator you can fit.

I have pretty much the same set up right now. OBX headers and downpipe and DC sports SCS exhaust with test pipe. Extremely loud. At this point I consider myself ricey. I just decided to forget about adding a resonator and just put a stock cat on. I'm trading my friend stock cat for test pipe tomorrow. I just need to find gaskets.

Oh, if you don't want to put the stock cat on, go with a high flow. Kills some sound, and still flows better. Thats only my advice though.

The test pipe removes the cat. That is a huge restriction, as it's a mesh material that the air must pass through.

The resonator is just a piece of pipe with holes in it. Slows the air a little bit, but mostly it just cuts down on noise.

are you talking about that crackly sound at 4k and up. if so, i get the same thing.
kama headers, hfc, and catback made my ride loud as hell and ricey.
ithink its just the straight threw exhaust. you want it quiet. put the stock cat back on. really!
clog up the exhaust and it quiet. makes sense. i think

Well i have a gutted CAT, should i put my resonator on or the CAT and just sell my test pipe.
I got the resonator from RRM. would there be a HP difference between the two?right now it feels like i was faster with my gutted cat but i dont know.

I had a test pipe for a while and took it off after the header was put on. Too loud and against the law.

Gutted cat probably won't be much quieter. The catalytic material is the damper. Removing it will probably just give you an equally loud, but slightly more hollow, sound.

kinda slightly, but not really off topic.

if i gutted one of my cats would that increase top end power without loosing torque? which cat would i do? the 1st of 2nd, and finnally. Would i need a CEL eliminator?

Any time you remove a cat, you loose some low-end.

It's simple physics. You can't trick your way around it.

Everytime you remove/change the exhaust, you lower backpressure. So you lose low-end and gain top-end. Any mod to the exhaust takes away from low-end power.

-----

Removing either cat might lead to a CEL. Pulling out the first cat is pretty safe (it's like a cheap header). Removing the 2nd definitely leads to CEL (100%) and won't do as much.
