Red face More EVO news

I went to the car show here in Cleveland yesterday and spoke with a dealer, the EVO was not there so I asked about it, they told me that it will be here in Jan 2003, with 260hp, AWD and starting at under $30K approximately $28K. However they did say it was going to be TWIN turbo. I've never heard of any evo being twin turbo but maybe that's a result of moving the intercooler around??

Anyway don't shoot the messenger I'm just passing on news!!!

:Shoots the Messenger: MWAHAHAHAHA...take that! As for twin turbo that's just silly. I could use another s-word...but I won't. That would take so much more engineering than simply relocating the intercooler.

This is not against you Topman 17.

Usually when I hear the words Evolution VII and twin turbo in the same sentence, everything that is said after that just becomes a bunch of senseles babbling to me. There is an instant lose of credibility.

Boy, won't I stand corrected and feel dumb if it actually happens though.

Well put evo_dan. It's senseless to rumor a twin turbo unless both are really small...

It is pretty strange though that it has been mentioned so many times. Makes you wonder for a second.

if you went to a car show and they said evo is going to be twin turbo... they mite be saying it to throw you off track... but then again.. they could do that... but wouldnt that be too much lagging? argh....all the people should shut up and just wait.... rite??

If you are referring here to turbo lag, it would be less lag with twin sequential turbos. In a twin turbo setup the turbos are much smaller therefor lighter, so they spool up faster and at lower RPMs giving you better low end torque, but because they are small your top end power suffers.

After recently driving a Evo 6.5 Makinen, I don't see the need for t/turbos from a lag point of view. There virtually ain't none. The VII will probably have less, if thats possible. Only 100 Makinens were released in Australia towards the end of 2001. I reckon they look a lot more "killa" (read TUFF) than the VII., although the VII is probably a bit more refined. I don't know if we are getting VIIs in Australia, although quite a few are being privately imported for racing.

Theres no way that they are making the Evo VII a twin turbo just because they had to move the FMIC. Thats way too much additional expense for mitsu.

aka spreads really fake rumors guy.

It could be twin IC, instead turbo. Just guessing since I also have heard twin turbo rumor. Since twin turbo would be overkill twin IC might fit the bill better.

"Retaining the Evo VII's screaming 4G63 twin-scroll turbocharged and intercooled 2.0 litre"

Read the above line, and you'll see where "twin turbo" rumors come from. The turbo used in the Evo series right now is referred to as a twin-scroll turbocharger, in all literature and press releases. I won't even guess, I'll state right now that all the rumours of twin turbo come from the fact that people see "twin-scroll" and, not knowing what it means, think that it's a twin turbo - and then passes the information along to everybody else saying twin turbo instead of twin-scroll.

it would be pointless twin turboing a 4 cylinder car.
