Lancer Specs Revealed!!!
I said Lancer, not Lancer EVO VII
anyway I checked out an OZ rally edition Lancer tonight at my dealership. I must say it does look better in person, though it needs some work still. I wanted to get a feel for what my new car might feel like (size wise).
Anyway it has a 4G94 engine with 9.5 compression. A turbo would be possible but unlikely.
It would gain about 30 hp by getting an intake. The stock one necks to about 1" (no kidding) in the middle. Also the grill is part of the hood, which is a bit wierd. There is a lot!!! of room in the engine bay for such a small car. Wonder what they might use that for on other models?
Now I wonder if the 4G63 EVO VII engine would bolt in.

I know for sure the heads are diffrent, i think they have a better port & pollish, & i'm sure about the cams being somewhat better. I don't know about the bottom end, you would think so seeing how the upper end was built better.
well, the evo only has about 60 more HP than the GSX, which might be attainable with just breathing upgrades, so its possible most of the engine is exactly the same other than some larger diameter piping and filters. THe GSX engine wasn't any kind of weakling. Its really almost as good as the engine that comes in the evo. I wouldn't be too incredibly depressed to see a US edition with the GSX engine, as long as mitsu lowered the price to compete with the WRX.
You guys are missing a very important point. The EVO IV+ engines are on the opposite side of the engine bay of the 90-99 Eclipse/Talon/Laser/Galant VR-4.
The motor mounts are on opposite sides, the transmission is on opposite sides, the head is turned 180 degrees, etc.
The only way to swap would be to fab custom motor mounts.
If you want an EVO engine in your GSX then you would want the EVO III motor which was the last to be on the drivers side. It bolts into a GSX.
The EVO IV+ engine bolts into a Mirage just fine though, or a 2000+ 4 cyl Eclipse.

Here are what should work
EVO I-III engine -> 90-99 E/L/T/GVR4 and ??-96 Mirage.
EVO IV-VI engine -> 97-01 Mirage and 2000-2001 Eclipse
EVO VII+ engine -> 2002 Lancer and ???
The EVO VII may have the same mounting as the EVO IV-VI but I don't know. The best people to contact (if and only if you were really serious) is Road Race Engineering. I know they have an EVO VI engine and other stuff waiting to go into an interested customers car.

really, the EVo IV-VI engines bolt right into a mirage? I thought that there were problems with that. You would think it would work like a charm, but I thought I heard that when Mirages/lancers are converted to Evos the mounts and bushings were replaced. I could be wrong though.
In the end is it really worth it though? You still need the suspension, drivetrain, Recaro seats, and even after all that you'll never really have the ultra stiff chassis.
Here's an illegal idea
What if you buy a totalled Mirage for dirt cheap and a used Evo for race only use. Then swap all VIN numbers so its as if you swapped the Evo parts into the Mirage (theoretically of course
). Then register it as a Mirage and let them know it's been modified.... huuuh.... huuuuh........ come on, it could work
