Ebay EVO VI owned by Bill Riley

I had been high bidder on this thing back in December, but he wanted $45k, and it is registered as a KITCAR (is that legal?).

Anyway, it is back on the block. - Goodluck.

Bill Riley is of Riley and Scott (the guys who race those funny looking cars at the 24 hours of sebring type races).

I know of a few people that drive Kit Cars on the road.
One guy has a Kit Car Corvette w/ a Viper styled body, He was telling me it was street legal but coast him an arm & a leg to get ont he street.
And his insurence company only lets him put 20miles a week on it.

as my screenname's meaning..... I will have a Westfield MEGABUSA to drive in the next month, as my fun car. Supposed to hit sixty in 3.5 seconds....(lotus Super 7 replica, powered by a GSXR1300cc)

anyway.... I know KITCARS are legal in the USA, but I didn't think EVO VI were....you can't just rebadge any car as a "KITCAR" and register it, or people would import everything and call them all "KITCARS"

I remember seeing that on Ebay a while back. $45K for a used car that may not be legal seems kind of pricey.

Evolution Imports will be importing and legalizing Evos, new and used. You could check with them... they have around 30 new Evo 6 Makinens that are supposed to be coming in.

Depending on the state you live in, kit cars can be registered as a street legal daily driver. I have been looking into buying a Westfield Seight fom a company in Texas that imports them. As long as you can get a title to the vehicle (which this company provides) the DMV will assign it a VIN number and it can be driven legally on a daily basis.

Any idea how you would go about declaring a car a kitcar?

Not sure what the requirements are that a car must meet to be considered a kit. Run some general searches on the web, there is quite a bit of info.

Cool

you are probably better off waiting untill December and getting one of the 2000 EVO VII GSR's that are being imported by ralliart.
The proce of the cars should be about $37K with full warante and
finacing available. They are going through DOT and EPA testing
right now. The reason the cars are $12K over the Japanese sticker proce is because ralliart had to suply 3 EVO's to DOT and $500,000.00
for crash testing and etc.

If its true that the evo is coming for that much, they didnt do a very good job of looking at the target market... My dealer told me under 30k :soapbox:

The EVO's being imported are going to be RS-2.

If you do a direct currency conversion they might be less than $30K in Japan but it does not really work that way. In the UK the direct conversion to USD is $42000. In any case they will not be here for the $39950 as originally advertised. They will be more than that.

As far as the target market, Im not sure what you are talking about.
You can't take a high end car and lose money on it just because that is your target market. I don't think BWM is going to price the M3 under $30K to compete with the WRX. Same goes here.
If Mitsu brings a sub $30K car here, it will be detuned to fit in that budget. A real EVO is worth far more than that.
Just look at the WRX. It has a cheap interior, and detuned engine. That is besides the emissions stuff like extra cats. Mitsu is already doing well in the $25K market with the Eclipse. It doesn't need to get that market. It needs the high end and low end (The EVO would only be here to promote the US spec Lancer and get people to buy the econo box's.

E-mail me at evo@tearitupsports.com if you want information on how to buy a real EVO.

Regards

Sorry, but the UK evos are so expensive is because of the UK car tax.
The Evos in Singapore cost maybe USD 100k but that's because of the car taxes there.
If you want to really compare, use the Japanese conversion, which is 24k USD for a new Evo7

For 55k, i would much rather buy a new M3 with cash left over.
There wouldnt be much of a market for Evos at that price, though i might be proven wrong.

Subaru's STI is coming here for about 30k and is almost as quick as the Evo. Besides, running 92 octane will cut down on the Evo's power which kind of defeats the purpose of the car...
