EVO VI questions - legally allowed here?
yeah, there's a company that converts Mirages into Evos. its called Ralliart.
JK, I dont know of companies that do full conversions, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. If you look hard enough I'm sure you could find one, plus a crashed mirage or something as the starter vehicle.

although the cars are registered, they are still illegal in the USA for emissions and crash worthyness! We never answered what happens with mr ******** cop says " this here thing ain't legal in the USA, lets call the National Traffic Safety Board (or whomever)", and they come impound the car and have it exported (along with a hefty fine)

MEGABUSA -
If you can get the car registered as a kit car, you're all set. There's no crash standards or emissions anything for a kit car. At least in Michigan this is the case. I would imagine in most states emissions exceptions are made for kit cars.
If you go the EPA/DOT approval route, as Evolution Imports plans to you're all set there too.
Now for the converted mirage, I don't see any major problems either, unless you live in a state with emissions testing, and there's a chance you could get through that as well. In Michigan, there are any vehicle inspections, so I wouldn't have any problem. I don't know what goes on in other states, but you can do just about anything you want here. I have an awd eagle talon now, with no bumpers front or rear
, 5 pt harnesses, racing seats, no airbag, big exhaust, gutted interior, and on and on. I've been pulled over in that and not had any problems. I haven't read any law anywhere where it says anything like you can't modify your car. Or maybe this is just one good thing about living in Michigan (there's not many).
And like LanEVO says, they probably won't know what the thing is anyway.

I don't think you are "home free" if you get it registered.... Bill Gates
would have sent a ship from his oceanside house to pick up those 959's, and had them registered as "kitcars" instead of parking them in the impound yard for 10 years.?
A lotus Elise owner(he is from st. martin) who imported it for the one lap of america (they sucked...wrecked...broke...finished almost last)......he was stopped 3 times from miami to Atlanta to make sure the car was legally allowed on the road.... i cannot imagine any car can be called a "kit car" and be legally allowed.
just my opinion, and I would guess that is why Mr. Riley cannot sell his EVO VI.

holy crap this is an old thread!!!
in the past 5-6 years since this was an active thread, a handful of people have managed to register EVo VI's and VII's but i would still say that none of them are really legal.
Evolution Imports got shut down on importing them unless they were to crash test a couple, which never happened.
ahahah.. I just got an email saying that someone had replied to this thread which brought it back to the top.... apparently that reply was deleted......
