Precisely. That's what I know they've done before. Layaway = no risk. Sending out merchandise without full payment = high risk.

This is the kind of feedback I was looking for.

I am aware of the issues that have been brought to light regarding the "ensurement of payment." I'd considered them before ever writing the first post.

I'm just getting an idea what people are interested in. If Rock doesn't agree, that's fine, no skin off my back. I'm working on saving for a kit, but it takes time.

I'm glad that there are people here telling us how this is a bad idea. I wouldn't want Rock and RRM to start a program like this and not understand every possible hurdle that could pop up.

I understand fully that this will most likely never happen, but there is a possibility for everything, I thought I would explore the possibility.

I think a layaway plan is probably the best way to go on this ... and big props to ROCK for allowing people to do that. Thats alot of accounting work on his behalf .. but thats dope!

Why not see if a place like American General Financing would work with RRM? That way, you sign up for a loan from AGF, if approved, they send a check to RRM for FULL price .. RRM sends you your turbo and you pay back AGF on a monthly basis ..

I am gonna contact Rock, because I would be more than willing to go with a plan like that. I am not ready for a turbo. By the time I paid it off, I would have my cat-back, and the money for installation and tuning (you have to take the other expenses into account), and my warranty would be just about finished. This would be perfect for me, I have to wait anyway.

I have fairly new credit and i have about 3k in debt and I got approved for a Dell loan up to $1500...its not hard. As long as you have some established credit and your in college i find it pretty easy to get a credit card or a loan.

Hehe. American General. That's who I pay every month for my Accord loan. I can't say they have wonderful rates, but they've been good enough to me so far. I've considered going to them in the past.

Debt != delinquencies.

There's a world of difference from any creditor's point of view. Anyway, let's try to stay on topic here, guys.

Installments w/payment in full equaling shippment is something Rob will do on a case by case basis. He likes to know his customers so if you have a good rep with him your likely able to do this. I know for a fact this loan thing is not going to happen. There is so much going on at RRM besides the Lancer aspect that Rob would not even want to think about this topic. As others have said the risk is to high as well even under contract. Just call and talk to him and work out payments. He'll take whatever you can give and then send you kit when your payed in full. Remember this is his personnal business. Everything is custom made no assembly lines. This is a very time consuming and at times stressful business. Adding to it with lenders/loans is just not feasable economically/mentally/laborly. Rob is cool and totally reasonable though he knows as i do money isn't hard to get it is just hard to save as we often spend it before it hits out wallet. For what you get w/RRM 3G's is a steal. My car is so damn fast... i couldn't be happier. RRM's support and caring has been above anything i'd ever imagined. Rob has become one of my closest friends and i've only known him for a short time now. As consumers we are not getting punked when dealing with him so lets not punk him by trying to push a lending situation upon his shoulders. Just my .02 not shooting people down as i'd love to see more turbo lancers out there. Just save and take your time. It'll be better for us and RRM that way.

can i make a suggestion?

instead of giving someone else your money, and possibly paying them interest as it accrues over a period of time, why not exhibit some restraint and save the money yourself (like someone else suggested)? open up a savings account if you do not have one, and every time you get paid put some money in the account. that money will accrue interest (not much, but it's better than PAYING interest) and when you have enough you can withdraw the full amount and buy your new toy. if you feel confident, you can make a little more aggressive investments, but that's up to you.

2 main points:

1. i don't imagine that RRM is going to stop making turbo kits. by the time you have money saved, you can order a kit (so you possibly have to wait for one to be in stock, inqure beforehand about availability). this saves you from paying RRM money each month. the reason this is good, is what if 5 months into payments your circumstance changes? i'm sure they'd give you a refund, but wouldn't it be much more helpful to have that money on hand? i save up as much as i can each month, and when i got in my small accident i had the money available and was able to get my car fixed and paid for in full right away. plus, perhaps in a year a better product will be out, and now you will be happy that you aren't locked into one specific product.

2. by saving money yourself, you learn one of the most valuable lessons in life. money management. learning restraint and saving for future purchases is important, especially when you're young. it's pretty easy to start dumping all the money you make into your car, etc., but in a couple years you will wish that you had been saving and investing that money for the future.

debt stinks. my motto: if you don't have the money, don't buy it. simple as that. obviously this isn't feasable for big purchases like cars or houses where you can't lay out the money all at once (or maybe you can), but for smaller, not necessary to live purchases, save up the money. it feels much better to have waited for something, finally pay for it, then to have it right away and be in debt for a long period of time because of it. you definitely appreciate it more.

ok that's enough of Cup's {dad} lecture. kids, don't do drugs! (note: marijuana is not a drug)

As an ECON degree holder, I agree with CUP. As for lay away, we don't mind doing it for 2 reasons:

1 A self serving reason is that we can better anticipate inventory needed therefore having kits ready when you are ready.

2 So many guys call and say stuff like I had $1200 and I f#$Ken bought a stupid body kit. I should have saved more and got turbo. For many of you, money is buring a hole in your pocket so you spend it as soon as you get some. If you added up all the $ you spent on little stuff that made you happy for a week, or less, you could have had something substantial like turbo. Something that puts a smile on your face everytime you straighten out your right leg!

i'm currently on a payment plan w/ them I just decided to paypal rob whatever i have everyweek, even though rrm is very close to me it still saves me time, and rob's totally right about the little things, i've spent over 4000 on my car and although i'm totally happy w/ what i have i'd be happier w/ a turbo. So i just decided to bust my *** and get this kit as soon as possible and not buy anymore mods, instead I'm gonna do some cheap DIY mods like painting the interior and what not just to keep my modding needs fulfilled.
