unless you're losing air, you're fine, 1/2 inch isn't a big deal so really its nothing

^ I have no idea what he's saying, if this helps at one time I was with my friend drifting his subie which runs on 16/17's and we hit a curb dead on and totally f'd the wheel up and he still drove on it and still is as of today with no leaks what so ever, and the wheel chipped off 2 inch peices and he has new tires on those rims, runs fine

Depends on where, or who you have the work done through. A good corporation (Discount Tire) probably has "standards" as to what they'd consider a damaged rim. But only 1/2" bend in the lip shouldn't be a problem, just so long as the bead can still seal nicely around it...

my rim was damaged by a plow. insurance thought it should be replaced... I wasnt loseing air and it wasnt unbalanced but of course the structual integrity of the rim itself could possibly have been weekened slightly. I drove on it for months no issue. pic.

You, your car, and your friends ride around on those rims. I would replace it. What if that same rim hits another pothole?

sometimes it would be cheaper to replace a rim than get the bent fixed

^ True, cost me $120 for a 3/4ths inch bent lip, half way around the rim... But it's hard to replace a hard to find/ discontinued piece.
