aftermarket header = warranty void?
aftermarket header = warranty void?
i called the dealership to ask about the waranty of the car. i asked them if im going to change something on my exhaust system is it gonna void my warranty. Then they told me that just don't change the catalytic converters.
now the question is, is this true? anyone, had a experience on this? i know that there's a cat on the stock header so if im going to change my header they gonna void my warranty.

yes. if you change the header, removing the first cat converter, it is gonna void your warranty for anything emissions related. Basically the headers, 2nd cat converter, resonator, muffler, and all the piping
but the exhaust isn't really something i'd worry about, cat converters and any replacement exhaust stuff is fairly cheap.

Yeah, it's true. Hell, you live in Cali, so 90% of the mods are illegal anyways. You have to do some serious planning if you want your warranty to stay intact and avoid tickets.
Also, be aware that parts you modify only affect your warranty when the problem is related. If you remove the cat converter and your cigarette lighter dies, they have to fix it. If you remove the cat converter and you get a CEL, they don't have to fix it.

oh wow.. i just came here in USA and CA last year and i didn't know that there's alot of illegal aftermarket parts here.. i thought it's land of the free! lol.. so just pass the emission and don't get pullover by the cops you would be ok?
Well, many aftermarket parts are "technically" illegal, but you are fine with them. The vendor usually has some "cover my ***" warning about them being for "off-road use", etc.
California, on the other hand, is the state with the biggest smog problems, so they make you car owners suffer. Look into something called C.A.R.B., the California Air Resources Board. Any part you put on your car has to have C.A.R.B. approval, or you risk tickets, fines and car impounding. Serious stuff.
Yeah, basically get past emissions and avoid the cops. But remember that they're trained to find lowered cars, loud exhausts, aftermarket intakes, etc. Keep any C.A.R.B. stickers from your parts in the car with you at all times.
Or move to Florida, where they don't give a damn about anything. No emissions testing, nothing.

Just alittle information for those that don't know. It is federal law that the dealer must honor your warranty unless they can with out a doubt that what you did directly caused the breakdown.

you can change it but if you go in for warranty work and the dealership can PROVE that the aftermarket part is what caused the problem, then they will void your warranty and you'll have to deal with the problem by yourself or pay them for parts and labor
