concerned about modding
Think of this thought--what is there to be gained from an exhaust? On a car like a Lancer the gains will be miniscule, if there are any at all.
Sure, your car will be louder, but let's leave that for the kids in the Civics lol
Naturally it's your car and you can do whatever you want, but I still advise you to save your cash and use it for a better cause.

The longer you wait, the less your gonna get for your car on trade in
Here my .02...i say mod the hell outta it
....thats the route i went, i had my 04 oz , bought it in early 05 with intent to get rid of it in 2 years for an evo...i still modded it...i can't drive around in a stock car...just aint me...in the long run i got few grand over kbb price
they liked the rims/exhaust, but i do think you should mod it, 2 - 3 years is a long time and stock cars are lame

Eh...depends on what the alternative is. A turbocharged car that really moves? Or a loud, ricy sounding car that doesn't go anywhere?
Free stuff is great and if it sounds nice then go for it. But if it just makes the car a whole lot louder I'd say leave it alone, keep some maturity, and leave it as is until the better car comes along.

...even though my oz didn't go anywhere
....well, i say get a nice set of rims, lower it on some springs, nice set of hid's tints and good sound system and drive slow homey.
I say save your money and don't do a damn thing to the car. All the money you dump into the car could go into buying the evo or modding the evo. Think about it this way,
New exhaust= Free since you're not paying for it but depending on what you get (full catback, axleback, muffler, greddy, magnaflow, etc.) it could lower the value of the car
Suspension= 200$-1000+$, Springs are pointless and will definitely lower the value of the car when the stock shocks blow
Sound system= 1000+$, may increase the value of the car but not my what you paid for it

i spent 50 bucks on a set of springs for the oz..tien s tech...looked great and had a nice ride, def improved value in my book...well hey, if you use your car to get from point a to point b, than dont mod it, if your car represents your personality, i say mod it, and when you get that evo, mod that too.
We're not talking about "your book", though. We're talking about Kelly Blue Book or the NADA Price Guide book. Unless you happen to find someone looking for a Lancer with Tein S-techs (rare, especially since most prospective owners will go "oh, he must have abused the car if he put on racing modifications!") a set of springs will lower the value of the car for 99% of possible sales.
I know that style mods like tints, rims, hids, and even exhaust are appealing and worth it if you want them, but when driving around a car with crap tires and pads, I would look into upgrading those first. It will increase performance and safety and give you a greater chance of having a higher resale value. Curbing your car in the snow on stock tires like I did is no good for resale value
Things like a nice set of tires and brake pads makes sense, you won't get dinged for them, but once you start changing the suspension, engine or the outside you start getting into trouble with regards to resale.
