Evo VII Intercooler

I was wondering about the details of the intercooler spray system. I remember reading that the VII has 3 spray nozzels? And there is an auto and manual setting.

I remeber reading that they spray 3 times at some interval like every 5 seconds? Will any of that change depending on the outside temp, engine/intercooler temp, or rpms?

What is the point of the manual setting? Does the driver have to press a button to spray it? What is the deal with the reservoir? Does it take a mixture of water and alcohol?

Thanks for any info.

Hi I drive a 7 maybe I can help answer some of your questions.

Basically the intercooler spray is located near the handbrake, looks like a rocker switch. At the top is "Auto" mode and below, "Manual". If you press on "Auto", a light will come on in the console and basically the spray will operate automatically. I do not know the interval but the intercooler spray doesn't seem to come on, even in hot and humid temperatures (I live in Singapore which is just above the equator). However if I press on Manual you can hear the spray working and checking the front of the intercooler reveals that there are some water droplets on it. NOTE: what this means is that you can still manually operate the spray even if it has been set to Auto mode. To turn off Auto mode you have to press it again, think of it as a toggle.

From what I gather you can just use water. BTW it is not advisable to keep the spray on for more than a minute as it may cause the motor to overheat.

Cheers.
