Purchased a new 08 Lancer DE!

Hello members, I am new to this site and hope to learn a lot about my new lancer. I really enjoy driving it with the CVT transmission. My lancer only has about 140 miles. I bought it last Saturday. I needed a good, reliable daily driver. I have always been big into mustangs, and my 1995 mustang was becoming unreliable for daily driving because of all the mods.

I have an OEM lancer spoiler on order right now, and it will be installed at the dealer later this week or early next week. The only other thing I really want to get is the stainless steel exhaust tip from Mitsubishi, and maybe a good looking set of 18" rims.

Sorry for the blurry pics. Apex silver:

Hey man, nice new cool car! So how come you didn't buy the EVo one that looks just like that? evo X.

The mustang is a reliable car. I've 60's to 70's car and they are still running. Good!
The mods make it sick??

Well, the Evo X is not out yet, and I have no need for a vehicle of that performance status. I was just looking for a good, reliable car that drives nice and has some get-up for the highway.

The stang is a huge turbo/carbon fiber project in the works, so hopefully I will be able to do what I have always wanted. I work as an auto mechanic so the car will be staying at my shop for now. Mustangs are very reliable cars!

I will probably leave this car stock besides a nice set of wheels, but thanks for the link

I will definitley use the search feature. I'm on a few other forums with the same layout, so this is good!

I purchased the lancer for about 17K out the door (Including the spoiler - waiting install, and floor mats). I am not sure if my interior is a different color from the GTS, but I will say I love the interior of my DE. Always loved the black interior!

Congrats! I got my ES two weeks ago for the exact same reasons: I wanted a comfortable daily driver, and I've already got another radical performance car (MR2 Turbo + lots of upgrades) These are gorgeous cars, and I'm really happy with mine so far.

I'm not the thread originator but I'll give you my experience: I went in to the dealership determined to buy an MT, but wound up getting the CVT. There were two principal reasons: (1) I was unhappy with the long throws on the shifter and the long travel on the pedal, and (2) when I test-drove an automatic Camry, I realized that for my daily driver/family hauler I want something as un-involving as possible. When I want excitement, I'll take our the MR2.

I will say, however, that if the shifter and clutch pedal feel were as good as on the new Civic I test drove, I might well have gone with the MT instead.

First congrats on a new car. I recommend painting that fake CF crap the same color as the car. Makes the interior really pop.

Thats funny, my throws aren't that bad and I only have to push my clutch in about 2 inches to shift. You either test drove a fluke Lancer or have no clue on how to drive with a clutch.

No, It's just that I've driven cars with sporty MT setups and I know how one should feel. Case in point: my 1992 MR2 Turbo (though the shifter was really lame until I replaced it with a short shifter). Case in point my old 1990 Mazda Miata (car didn't need a short shifter... fabulous feel, shifted with a flick of the wrist, wonderful car.) Case in point my old 1993 Honda Civic (Honda makes the best shifters in the business... just ask anyone who's driven an S2000). The 2007 Civic I tested before buying the Lancer also had wonderful shifter/clutch feel. Case in point my old 1986 Lotus Turbo Esprit (Car bled me dry financially and shifting was a nightmare in hot weather until I replaced the rubber clutch line with a steel braided unit).

Son, unless you've ever scrubbed of 60mph coming off the back straight and onto turn 1 of a decent road course, heel and toeing to keep your engine revs in the powerband and the turbo spooling, all while concentrating on keeping to the driving line in a mid-engined car (something I'll be doing again for the 7th or 8th time tomorrow, BTW), I'm not sure how you can judge my abilities with a manual transmission.

The simple fact is the Lancer's shifter throws are too long to give the car a sporty feel, as is clutch pedal travel. I'm sure before long you'll be able to replace the stock shifter with a short shifter and improve that part, but I don't know about the clutch pedal. Maybe you can adjust the travel. i simply don't know. What I do know is that when I bought the Lancer I bought car with a 5 Year bumper to bumper warranty, and I'm not going to jeopardize it by tinkering with it. It's a family hauler for me. I'll take out the MR2 when I need a thrill.
