Qaulity of an EVO VII
Qaulity of an EVO VII
I was wondering for those of you who have evo 7's or have been in them, how do they feel? do things in the cabin feel like they are going to break? when you close the door does it feel all cheap? or is everything solid? and do they break down often? I know this has been beaten to death, but i know they are the same engine as the eclipse GSX and those had alot of problems. are they really THAT much faster than the sti? and are subies really THAT more reliable?
no flames please, just asking a simple question.

From what I understand, the Evo and the STi are really the same in terms of speed. Most say the Evo is the better performer in terms of handling.
As for the interior, I have heard the Evo's interior is "cheaper" feeling when compared to the Sti.
I really couldn't care less about the interior...it's an Evo. It's not known for, nor was designed for luxury or anything like that. I would still buy one even if they stapled cardboard on the inside doors and made the dash out of popsicle stix...as long as there is at least 1 recaro seat for me to sit in

well the sti is a tenth of a second faster to 60 and in the 1/4 mile. interior is better. evo seems to handle better due to the ayc...but rally drivers dont even want that in their car...so im not sure if ayc is good or bad. i think for inexperienced driver its better but then u want it out when ur better. sti is gonna cost at least a grand over the evo.
I doubt that many daily drivers would ever NEED to turn AYC off. Youre talking about rally drivers, 99.9% of people will never reach that type of skill level. Besides, the car is not really that close to a road going EVO.

You dont get the Mercedes door shutting noise. The car is really light, so are the doors, but it doesnt sound as cheap as a French or Italian car either.
Engine wise, all that ever happens is connecting rods breaking due to too high boost. Espacially in rally where they boost over 2 bars. On a road car with 1.5 bars boost, all you will ever get is a little oil consumption and maybe some lifter noise at cold start...

I'm not evocrazy, but a friend of his. I have driven and ridden in his 7 so here's my impression. It's definately solid, I know what you're talking about by the "cheap door thunk" there are many vehicles here in Japan that sport it, the Evolution is most certainly not one of them. I'll agree its no BMW or Benz, but it's far from cheap. The interior is sparce if anything, no fancy distracting gizmos that are all noise and smoke with very little function. It's all business as a WRC car should be. It has all the stuff it needs, nothing more, nothing less. Sorry, no voice activated digital climate control here. Did you ever try to use such a contraption anyway? I have, after 10 minuets of the fan going from high to off every five seconds I switched it to manual. Anyway, enough of my rant. It is a solid car, I would have to say build quality as well as fit and finish are above average for any production car sold in the U.S. And of all the time I've spent in it, I have yet to hear an interior rattle. As for the Recaros, they are nothing less than outstanding, they grab your *** and don't let go. You will however have trouble fitting in them if you are overweight, even a wallet in the back pocket can be a nusence. Sorry, I have no firsthand knowledge of the Subaru for a side by side comparison. Is it all about creature comforts, no, it isn't. Then again was anyone expecting it to be a luxury car? If you were I'd like to get my hands on whatever it is that you're smoking, 'cause its got to be some good stuff.
