Recommended octane for the EvoVII.

Does anyone know what octane the non-US Evo VII requires? I am sure it says 'Premium Fuel Only' but what exactly is considered premium outside the US...like say Japan.

I am sure the US Evo will require premium but where I live, all Sunoco's carry 92, 93 and 94 octane. They also carry Cam2 which is 100 octane, and 110 octane racing gasoline is available . 100 octane and above costs upwards of $5 per gallon. I am assuming that the owners manual will state what the recommended octane rating is for the engine when the Evo finally arrives.

Like all things sport... It will probably indicate Premium 91 or higher.
And one of the many reasons to indicate low HP rating.
So maybe you could get close to 270+ HP if you were to use 110 racing fuel.

Are you getting the non-us Evo? That would be a good question to ask whoever is importing the Evo for you. If you're waiting for the us version I'm sure that it will be the us octane rating, in which case it would be 90-94 rated premium. For my GSX premium is the recommended octane to get but, depending on where I fill up I've noticed a difference.

For the non-US EVO that is one reason for the Motec and the water/alcohol injection. Most of the world uses RON (research octane number) for their octane rating. The US uses (RON+MON)/2 (MON = motor octane number) for octane rating (AKI.) The key item missing from the US ratings is the sensitivity = RON-MON. Sensitivity is around 10 typicaly.

To shorten the story US 91 octane rating assuming sensitivity of 10 should be close to RON 95-96

On the east coast we've got 93 as the standard. Where would that put us in comparison to Europe, etc? Also, is there a straight cut way to convert our specs to European to get an exact comparison?

Thanks,

Mark

Actually, there is a Chevron Gas station near me that has 4 types of gas: 87, 89, 93 and 98 octane.
In my eclipse , I always use 93 octane, same for the VR-4.
But if The evo comes, I'm not sure if I should go for the 98.

I had my E5 re-mapped for 94 octane (Sunoco gas in NY). Evos from Japan are designed to accept 100ron, don't know exactly how that would affect engine longevity and performance if you use 93 octane here in the states.

There's always octane booster...
