Mitsi made a step down with the EVO 7

The EVO 5 and 6 were better sports cars. Better looking and better performing. Adding a little low end torque doesn't make up for the fact that the EVO 7 has been fashioned after your grandma's saloon.

So how is the 7 doing in the rally world? It's tanking that' what. No wonder the Japanese economy is going to heck in a hand basket. They should have had the EVOs here 5 years ago instead of waiting for them to get "domesticated". Or is the US market so automotively "retarded" that they figured they had to have a "luxury" type car to sell over here. Wouldn't be surprised.

As for me, I'm still looking for a hard charge "barebones" type sports car. The EVO 5,6 could have been it. Too bad.

And the point of this post was???

You act like the Evo 7 is a ****ty car. It is still pretty barebones....and fashion is all subjective. If you think the Evo 7 is a "luxury" car you're on some pretty good crack....which I wouldn't mind gettin my hands on.

The debate about the Evo 5 & 6 being better cars could go on for days....personally I think they're about the same.

I disagree. the VII is more refined. 50% stiffer chasis. hows it do in the rally world? are you going to rally an evo or drive it daily? ever see what that car can do on a track? on a road race? evo VII is awesome. I have an evo V and I would love an evo VII. download some videos or watch some best motoring.

Rufus,

I have to disagree with you. Yes, the American market has changed in the last couple of years but, it is still dominated by the enthusiasts who think in a straightline or left turn only. Mitsu has been selling turbo AWD here since 1991, until 2000. If anyones screwed things up we, the US consumers did first.
Lets try to change that by buying an Evo7

O please.... this guy drives a ford mustang for a godsake. Who gives a rats *** what he has to say. If he at least had a Japanese car, his words may actually have meant something. Faster or not.

Sorry mate, but you really don't understand Rally based cars. Looking at WRC car results is meaningless because the cars are so different from the road cars. Look at grp n, which is effectively a standard production car class. Evo 7's are doing rather well in that class in many countries and are now prefered to Evo 6's. Grp n cars normally have a reasonable lifespan, so teams wouln't change if there wasn't an advantage.

Based on what you say, we should all be out buying the best Peugeuts. I think not.

The EVO rally team lost Makinen to the Scooby team so with a new driver you'd expect them to have a mediocre start to the rally season.

Another reason why the Evo WRC is doing so poorly this year is because it is Mitsubishi's first entery into the WRC specs. This is a totaly different car from the Group A Evo. It usually takes around 2 years of R&D to make a totaly new car competitive.

The VII is definately a step up from the VI in terms of better handling and increased torque in lower gears. Aside from the drastic changes in the body styling, I prefer the subtle lines of the VII. Is someone actually calling the EVO VII a domestic economy car. Thats the first time I've ever heard those two words in the same sentence when refering to the EVO. Damn near fell out of my chair laughing. I can't fault you on your prefernece though, The EVO VI is still an old favorite of mine but my flames now burn for the VII.

Ammm ..
I have 5 points in this discussion:

- First:. Rally cars are weight balanced, no seats, cockpit. It's not even like the car you buy for street use. So don't use it to compare.

- Secound:. the Evo 4, 5, 6 are very very good looking cars ... It's been since 1998 when I saw it first time ( I'm from Brazil ) and still in love with. This Evos are so Mean. Well I preffer the design of these if compared to Evo 7.

- Third:. the TME are a hell of a good car, and if it don't beat an Evo 7 it get a lot closer. It the Mitsubishi whated they could boosted a lot more the Evo 7, to an ultra sport car. It's now a most all time use car, more refined interior and so on.

- Fourth:. The Mitsubishi Already have Sport Cars ... Eclipses ... and I bet these sport cars will get a preatty good improvement in the motor

- Fifth:. The have allready reached a good engine specs, and why they'll invest money to get it faster. If they have to put limited engines in the streets ??

Every article I have read said that the VII is an improvement over the previous models.

It's like that with any car, the newer model is usually an improvement over it's predecessor.
