rrm piggyback v2
rrm piggyback v2
i was looking at this on rrms site and they say it does this and that but dont really give any numbers so i was wondering, for those that have it or seen what it can do, if this thing is worth the cost. its the 04-06 version auto and ive heard that it pays for itself in gas and improves torque but are there any hp gains and if so how much?
really? i sent rrm a message asking about it and they said 10% gains in all areas so that should be about 20 hp if that is correct. hmm maybe the 02-03 is diff from 04-06?
i had the V1 on my 03, and i really didn't see all that much of an improvement. I gained a little power and some extra mileage, like 10 more miles a tank. But i had a lot of issues with it also. Misfires, car stalling out, CEL's etc. It was installed correctly and soldered, but it ended up being more trouble than it was worth
and the 04-06 will see the same gains as a 02-03 with the piggy. They say 10%, but they also say you need to have supporting mods to get those gains, like intake, header, exhaust. Which means you end up spending even more money.
I'd recommend getting ECU flash if you wanna tune your car

Also, 10% of your stock 120hp (100whp) isn't 20. If RRM was exactly true, you'd have 132chp and 110whp. But at best, that 10% is an average or a rough idea.
No, it's the same motor from 2002 until 2006.

In the end, the piggyback is a good mod. It'll save you gas and it'll make your car peppier. But don't expect a miracle, and don't believe everything you read.
there is a thread on it in the tunning section. Basically it lets you connect a laptop to the cars ECU, and reflash it with a different tune, and adjust some other settings.
The software is free, and you just gotta pay $90 to get a cable. Then you can take it to a tuner shop and have it tuned. It will be better and cheaper than a piggyback

Waste of money. Doing any kind of engine mods for our cars is a waste of money. If you're looking to save gas, put on a SRI (DIY $35). I gained 50mpt. I did it for the gas, not power. Lancer = No power, unless you boost it. Think about how long it's going to take to pay for itself in gas savings using a piggy. Looooooooooong time. I bet you'll even sell the car before it does.
Lots of people disagree with me, and more power to them. But I think it's all a waste of $$$$.
This post is not intended to start another debate against engine modding, so please keep yourself from quoting me.

To bring things back on topic it is honestly all up to you and your funds when it comes to modding the u.s. lancer. Being that you have a automatic you have alot of drawbacks when it comes to getting power out of your car. I would say spend money on simple (cheap) boltons. Intake, full exhaust (header to catback) and if you still like it then buy the piggyback. Your not gonna get much gains with the piggy without the boltons.
I honestly think that a 4G63 swap is the way to go for power.
