you can tell them if you want to insure it ("it" being the kit itself)... otherwise no.

As long as you dont remove the crash bar, they will be OK.

You'd be smart to tell them. If not, you could get in an accident and have them deny the claim (either because they blame a problem on the kit or because you didn't tell them about a fairly major change to the car). Also, like 04lancerEsGuy said, you'd be wise not remove any of the car's safety items like the crash bar...

What insurance company are you with? I know some actually offer aftermarket part insurance. Depending on coverage amount the premium is higher.

Basically what they'll do is ask you to give them a quote from the manufacturer or retailer that you got that body kit from (assuming an accident has occurred already). They'll give you the money for those to be replaced; good for them cuz OEM parts are EXPENSIVE to replace...so they're glad to be on the cheap side. I had this experience from using Nationwide with full coverage.

ok it makes sense that OEM parts cost more so insurance companies are happier having to replace cheaper aftermarket parts. but what about if someone replaced their stock steel wheels with some like $1200 rims. or even if u put a bodykit on a car that didn't come with one from the factory? cus ok the bumpers are fine but what if the car's sideskirts or wing need replaced? wouldn't that cost the insurance company more than if the car was stock and the insured still paying the same premium?

yup ... 2 yrs ago i crashed my car and my insurance found out i had a body kit from the body shop. they just told me to give them a receipt and they'll pay for a new kit and hood. my owner of the body shop was surprised that they said they would cover a new kit.

not true. if you deal with the dealer your self they will rape you on price. body shops get it directly from mitsubishi and it cost a whole lot cheaper.

when u say mitsubishi are u talking about dealerships or u talking about like from japan. cus dealerships are known to charge alot and if its coming from japan then shipping is a killer. well i don't really care much about that thou i'm really interested in how insurace reacts to replacing things that didnt' come from factory but cost alot to replace like nice rims, HIDs, any cf stuff etc

Good question about the additional things...expensive rims, spoiler, etc etc. In that case you've got to talk with your agent or insurance company about how they personally take care of that. I know that there is supplamental pkgs one could add onto my policy (natiionwide) to cover additions. But the cost of the policy for the yr wasn't worth the Evo spoiler I had (at least for how much I bought it for); but if it had ever needed to be replaced, guess where'd they'd have to get the replacement? The dealership and pay the $1k+ for it!

im pretty sure mitsubishi has a warehouse some where in the north america and thats where body shops order parts from. not the dealership.. not from japan.

from personal experience, i also thought OEM cost more but the owner of the shop i go to said no. he said an oem bumper would cost 300-350 painted from mitsu. as for insurance companies, it really depends just like SLVROZ 03 said. this one guy took his benz to get fixed @ the same shop b/c it got stripped of all his after market parts. he wanted to be reimbursed for every thing but his insurance company said "you bought a benz so your covered for a benz" not "a benz with rims, system, blah blah blah.

Ok cool guys. Thanks. And one more question. My dad is worried that the body kit isn't safe. Like as if someone hit me, compared to the stock bumper. That's not true is it?
