i am pretty sure a snapped belt on a lancer would mean serious engine damage. if you are in doubt about the belt and you have a lot of miles just change it.

was the car just idling or were u driving it?? put a new belt on and do a compression test... I have done eclipse timing belts and others that broke while they were running and the car was fine after a new belt... but i do think that the lancer motor is a interference...

As I recall, it should. The 4G94 is an interference motor IIRC.

on some occasions you can get lucky and it not bend them. How fast was the engine spining when it broke and did you try to start it again after it breaking (that is what usually does the most damage)

So did the T-belt snap on you or is this hypothetical?

it didn't actually snap the belt. It wore a flat spot all the teeth are gone for about a 3'' span

A little preventative maintenance goes a long way... Stripped teeth are just as bad as a broken belt... 90% chance you gonna need a new vroom vroom...

Well, me along with a few others on the Civic boards have had a belt broke prematurely (or an Escort in my case) where nothing was damaged.

Were you in a lower rpm range when this occurred? Did you continue to drive it in said condition? Did the engine IMMEDIATELY die on you when it happened?

Depends on the models of CIVIC though... Some are non-interference...
